Keelan Hall Takes First Career Feature Win, Delaine, Copp, McDonald Claim Season Opener Wins

The 2023 Season Opener at Lake of the Woods Speedway had action in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Henley Enterprises & HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders, and the Riverview Industries WISSOTA Modifieds.

In the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Alexander Farr, took the early lead and extended it by a straight away over local Bryson McDonald. In the feature, it looked as though Farr would earn another victory at the track. However, he seemed to have had issues and eventually had to pull off the track. Michael Copp, who had a horrendous season last year was able to capture the lead, despite having spun out a couple times. It was a great battle throughout the field, especially between the McDonald brothers. Bryson would take second and Darrin Rea, third.

In the Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Dan Tocheri battled side by side with pole sitter, Nick Hooper but was eventually able to pull ahead for the first hear win. In the second heat, Edward Bell started on the outside pole and crossed the checkered before Keelan Hall.

In the feature, Hall was able to redraw on the pole and never looked back. The race went green to checkered, and even while having to be patient during lap traffic, Hall kept his cool to claim his FIRST ever feature win in the Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds! Brandon Rehill, the back to back track champion made the outside work enough to go from sixth to third, but was unable to close in on the leaders.

Nick Audette finished second, continuing his runner-up streak at the track.

In the Riverview Industries WISSOTA Modifieds, Rene Poluyko was able to hold onto the top spot against Jerome Guyot in the heat race.

In the feature, it looked like Poluyko was going to make it back to back season opener wins, but after a bobble coming into turn three with less than five laps to go, the veteran of Rick Delaine was able to squeak by and stole the win.

In the Henley Enterprises/HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders heat race, Taylor Audette started on the pole with Madoc Mulholland on the outside. But it was Logan McDonald and Dustin Alcock who were able to claim first and second.

In the feature, McDonald and Alcock were able to break away from the rest of the pack to claim another one two finish. Kamea Mulholland, three time winner last year, had mechanical issues, but was able to earn some points.

A huge thank to all the volunteers that help make racing happen at the track! A huge congratulations to Kenora’s Keelan Hall for his first feature win.

Next Event: Phil Boisjoli Memorial race for the WISSOTA Pure Stocks! We expect strong numbers in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks for the event. Check out our website or Facebook event page for more details this week.
