Jankowiak, Schenk, Brown, Hoch, and Casper Score Saturday Night Shootout Wins at Lancaster

LANCASTER, N.Y. (July 20, 2024) – It was a lucrative night for Tonawanda, NY’s Andy Jankowiak, and Canandaigua, NY’s Barrett Schenk at Lancaster Motorplex Saturday night, as not only they were both in victory lane after the Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman and Super Stock features respectively, but both drivers have earned guaranteed starting spots for the DCR Performance XMR Sportsman Modified race, and the Midstate Basement Authorities Dave London Memorial XVI presented by GTR Promotions at the Oswego Speedway August 30-September 1.

Other winners on Saturday night include Mark Hoch from West Seneca, NY winning his fourth Monroe Extinguisher Street Stock feature. Jeff Brown from Hamburg, NY winning the Late Model feature event, and Kyle Casper from Springville, NY winning his second 4 Cylinder feature.

Andy Nye and Brian Schulz were on the front row for the 35-lap feature for the Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman, with Nye in the lead. George Skora III would take over third place on lap six and would bring Andy Jankowiak behind him to race in fourth place, as both passed Mason Hanel. Skora would look to the outside of Schulz for second place on lap eight, and by lap 10, would take over the lead ,with Jankowiak following into second place. Skora and Jankowiak would be the class of the field, as the duo would pull away from the balance of the field. Jankowiak would use the inside of the track to take over the lead on lap 19, with Skora now giving chase. Jankowiak would fend off Skora over the final laps, including multiple restarts to earn the victory, his 30th career Sportsman triumph at Lancaster.

Matt Druar and Eric Brown brought the Super Stocks to the green flag for their main event, with Druar in the lead ahead of Brown, Russ Bulger Jr, Barrett Schenk, and Brian Hallett. Eric Kocher would race his way into the top five as he battled with Jimmy Steffenhagen. Ryan Lagoda spun in turn three to bring out the caution on lap four. Druar would continue to show the way, as Jake Wylie would take over second place on lap nine ahead of Andy Cryan. Druar and Wyle would pull away from the field, until the caution flag that came out on lap 24 as Jeff Whalen and Mike Scott got together in turn four. Druar would continue to show the way ahead of Jake Wylie, Ryan Lagoda, Schenk, and Kocher. Lagoda would battle and pass Wylie to take over second place on lap 28, but the pass wouldn’t last long, as Wylie would regain the runner-up spot on lap 29. Wylie and Lagoda made contact in turn three, with Wylie spinning to bring out the caution. Druar would continue to lead on the restart, as Steffenhagen would battle Schenk for second place. The caution would come out on lap 32, as race leader Druar spun in turn four, locking up the rear end. Steffenhagen and Schenk would battle for the lead, with Schenk taking the lead and would hold off the field to score his first career win at Lancaster. The race was in honor and memory of Grant Brown, who passed away suddenly on Father’s Day.

Dan Dressel and Gary Bartella brought the Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks to the green flag for their 25-lap feature event, with Dressel in the lead ahead of Bartella and David Brunka. Dressel and Brunka would battle for the lead for several laps, as Josh Schosek raced in third place. Dressel and Brunka made contact in turn two and would bring out the caution as the two hooked together. The caution would immediately come back out as Mike Dalfonso made hard contact with the turn one Thermal Foam. The lap nine restart would see Dustin Novoa and Mark Hoch on the front row, with Novoa taking the lead as Nik Welshans raced in third place, after starting 20th on the grid. Hoch would take the lead away on lap 17 exiting turn two. Hoch would lead on the following restart and would pull away from the field. Dave Johnson would take over second from Novoa, and would go after Hoch for the lead. Hoch would go on to score the feature win.

Dave Whittaker and Jeff Brown were on the front row for the Late Models feature, with third place starter Eldon King III quickly taking over the lead. Brown raced in second and was followed by Todd Delisle. Jeff Brown would take over the lead on lap six, with Delisle, Jacob Gustafson, Dave Whittaker, and Dave Heitzhaus racing in the top five. Delisle would challenge Brown for the lead, as King would work his way back to third place. Brown would go on to score the feature win, the fifth of his career at Lancaster.

Andy Danielwicz and Kyle Casper were on the front row for the 4 Cylinder feature event, with Casper showing the way with Chris Deyoe Jr moving into second place. Jim Dunkleman III would take over third place from Danielwicz and would start to go after the race leaders. While approaching lap traffic, Dunkleman would close in, making it a three-car battle for the lead. Connor Kurdziel came to a stop on the front stretch to bring out the race’s first caution with seven laps remaining. Casper would hold off Deyoe to score his second win of the season.

Racing returns to Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday, August 3rd for the 3rd running of the Nu-Way Auto Parts 150 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Also racing that day will be the Insinger Performance/VP Race Fuels Sportsman, Monroe Extinguisher Street Stocks, and the Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4’s. 4 Pit Gates will open at 12:30pm, with grandstand gates opening at 2pm, and racing will get underway at 5pm.
