Paul Nienhiser Scores 2024 MOWA Season Opener

PETERSEN MEDIA: Finally able to kick the 2024 Midwest Open Wheel Association (MOWA) season off on Friday night with weather hindering earlier events, Paul Nienhiser took advantage of the race being at his home track as he raced his way to the win in front of his hometown crowd.

“It is kind of crazy that it was the first of June and we ran our first MOWA race of the season, and it was only the third night out in my own No. 9x car,” Paul Nienhiser said. “We had a good car all night, I was able to race into the lead on the 10th lap, and then I did what I could to watch the track as rubber started to go down, and I wanted to make sure I didn’t get caught out of it and lose the top spot.”

Drawing the fourth row for his heat race aboard the CAM2 Lubricants/Midland Performance Inc./MB Heating and Colling Inc. backed No. 9x, Nienhiser had a great points run as he worked his way up to a fourth place finish.

Not quite pleased with how his car felt in his heat, Nienhiser still made the redraw off of his point tally and ended up with the tree and lining his car up in the second row of the feature event.

Watching track prep before the feature event extensively, Nienhiser and company made some adjustments, before he headed out for the finale. From the third starting spot, the Chapin, IL driver worked the low groove in the early laps as it had some good grip.

The everchanging dirt of the Jacksonville Speedway then saw a shift to the top groove, and Nienhiser wasted to time getting up to the fence and getting his elbows up.

Making a nice move to get into the lead on the 10th lap, Nienhiser looked very strong in front of the field. As the top groove cleaned off and got extremely slick, Nienhiser began to search around as rubber going down was imminent.

Hearing cars behind him seemingly start to get closer, Nienhiser moved down a couple of car lengths and made sure he was in the rubber that was going down.

Settling in, Nienhiser made sure not to push the limits too hard as he cruised to this third win of the season. With the win, Nienhiser now has 27 career wins with the series, 10 of which have been recorded at Jacksonville Speedway.

“Happy to get going, and hoping the weather plays nice through the Summer,” Nienhiser said. “A big thank you to all the companies that support me, and all the great people who lend a hand and help us go.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Lubricants, Midland Performance Inc., MB Heating & Cooling Inc., Buffalo Wild Wings, T&K Tree Services, Morrow Brothers Ford Inc., American Rental Center, Signature Signs, Lanny Auringer, Matt Bradway, Wessler Bros. Agency Inc., Haverfield Construction-Concrete, Dropped Mobile, David Mason, AB&C Moving, Maxim Racing, Engler Machine and Tool, Rider Racing Engines, Simpson Race Products, and Super Shox for their support.

Nienhiser would also like to thank Heartland Trailer Manufacturing, Rockstar Wraps, Kinney Racing Engines, and Stronghurst Collision Center for their support of Scott Bonar’s No. 50 car.

BY THE NUMBERS: Races-9, Wins-3, Top 5’s-3, Top 10’s-5
