McKay Wenger notches Top-5 finish in MARS visit at FALS

After losing Friday’s MARS Racing Series sanctioned contest at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.), McKay Wenger followed the series to Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) on Saturday for the fourth round of the tour. (Brendon Bauman photo)

Following the fastest-time in qualifying with a blistering 12.625-second lap, Wenger secured his spot into the main event heat race win. With $3,000 on the line, McKay posted a fifth-place finish in the 30-lapper, which came behind Mike Spatola, Jason Feger, Frank Heckenast Jr., and Ryan Unzicker.

For the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial on Sunday at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.), Wenger’s heat race triumph placed him on the pole for the $5,064-to-win A-Main. Coming one spot of a Top-5 finish, McKay recorded a sixth-place outing in the 40-lap affair.

McKay is currently third in the latest MARS Racing Series point standings.
