Ray Parent
Teamwork
The saying goes, racing is a Team sport. Those words were never so prevalent than this past Saturday night when the American Canadian Tour invaded Star Speedway in Epping, NH. As Ray Parent's Amtrol Racing Team was the reason for celebration.
At a track that Parent had never taken a lap on, the day started off well. He would earn a +3 in the all-important passing point system. Under the hot sun and a greasy track, passing in the heats proved difficult to all. Parent's 7th to 4th place run put him on the pole for the 150 lap event.
Wasting no time Parent powering to the lead from the start. He would set a pace and comfortable lead the next 50 circuits. When the 34NH of Todd Davis arrived at his rear bumper the Amtrol machine had bigger problems brewing.
The 17RI was leaking fluid, overheating and had lost its power steering. The caution Parent needed would fly on lap 51. The cause of the issue, a shredded serpentine belt on the front of the engine. A belt that is vital to controlling the engines temperature, power steering and more. "Something got in-between the belt and pulley, Parent stated. It took the belt off, which meant there was no way for the water to circulate and cool the engine. That knocked a hose loose and we were leaking water. One problem made another worse."
The Amtrol Team made quick work of the belt and hose, getting Parent back on track without losing a lap. A caution two laps later allowed the crew more time to fix the issues. "The crew did an absolutely outstanding job fixing the problem, Parent said. That is not an easy fix. I cannot credit them enough... They are the reason we could bring home a top 10."
That top 10 was an 8th place finish. A finish that made it 6 top 10’s in 7 starts in ACT competition this year. "To say that was a hard fought race is an understatement. But these guys never gave up and we were able to battle back. They showed why we are a championship contending Team, Parent finished."
The Tiverton, RI Team heads back to New Hampshire this Saturday as they look to complete more than practice with the make-up date for the ACT 150 at White Mountain Motorsport's Park. It will also mark the turning point of the 14 race ACT schedule with round #8. Parent and crew are looking forward to the second half of the season.
“We feel really good about our program right now… We have found some thing’s with the car and continue to improve on it, Parent finished.”
