Some great racing was to be had at Cottage Grove Speedway on Friday September 5th as the facility would host their seventh race of 2014. With the season winding down the action has not lessened at all.

Jayden Trupp of Coos Bay would take care of business in the Pee Wee ranks. Trupp would lead the entire distance of the main event to put his Dave Foote Motorsports/Nexdor Tobacco and More/Trupp Family Racing Team #72 QRC in victory lane for the fourth time of 2014.

The Mary’s Gateway Laundry/Ken Stevenson Trucking/Chip Express/Harris Machine Design #75W QRC of Elkton’s Gavyn Woody was second and in third Kiersten Hibbard of Medford in her C&H Motorsports/Dave’s Carpet & Vinyl Liquidators/Tangible Real Estate Investments #48G QRC. Joshua Baker, out of Eugene, was fourth in the Froggy’s Towing/Opie Motorsports/Bigg Dogg Recycling #28J QRC and completing the top five in fifth was Lydia Trupp from Coos Bay in her Dave Foote Motorsports/Nexdor Tobacco and More/Trupp Family Racing Team #722 QRC.

Austin Sause of Cottage Grove would lead the first lap of the 5HP feature in his Wheeless Trailer Sales/Cooper’s Pest Control/Umpqua Survival/Central Coast Vacuum #7 QRC. But on the following lap Sause and the Stere Racing #32S QRC of Isaac Stere, also from Cottage Grove, would tangle on the back stretch. That would give the lead to the Riggs Racing #32R Hubbard of Eugene’s Seth Riggs. Riggs would lead the rest of the distance to score his second straight win of the campaign.

Isaac Stere was second and Austin Sause third. Completing the finishing order was Abby Ellison of Roseburg in her Gibson Taxidermy/Seven Feathers Casino Resort/HighLine Image and Design #8A QRC in fourth.

In 125cc action Kyle Roles was in dominant form. Roles, the Lebanon youngster chauffeuring his Knothole Market/Big Sky Landscaping/Clayton’s Cornwell Tools/Rebecca’s Barber Shop #02 QRC, would lead the entire way. With a couple of incidents occurring Roles would master the restarts and secure his fourth win of the year. Conner Hanson of Creswell would place his Hanson Contract Cutting/SKS Racing/DT Motorsports/BC Motorsports/Dirt Monkey Productions #55H QRC in second while Destiny Smith from Sutherlin was third in her Destiny Smith Motorsports #18S QRC.

In the 250cc main event Medford’s Bailey Hibbard was the kart to beat. Hibbard would lead the whole way dominating the rest of the field and winning his fifth race of 2014 in his C&H Motorsports/Dave’s Carpet & Vinyl Liquidators/Tangible Real Estate Investments #1 QRC. Second would go to the Premier Insurance/Brad McMaster Trucking #8 QRC of Brenden McMaster from Roseburg and Elkton’s Jaydn Woody was third in his Mary’s Gateway Laundry/Ken Stevenson Trucking/Chip Express/Harris Machine Design #75 QRC.

In the Open Kage it would be quite the interesting main event to say the least. Harrisburg native Tyler Thompson was the early race leader in his Village Green Resort/Bunce Equipment/BC Motorsports/Rocket Designs #77 RFC. Thompson looked to be on his way to victory until ignition problems would bring his night to a premature end.

The lead would be turned over to Roseburg’s Matt McDowell in the Gibson Taxidermy/Seven Feathers Casino Resort/HighLine Image and Design #8M RFC. McDowell would experience mechanically problems while under caution resulting in an early end for him. This would give the lead to Cottage Grove’s Jake Ferguson. Ferguson would stay out in front the rest of the way to win his first race of the year for him and the Comfort Suites of Salem/Dragonflydecals.com/Quantum Chassis #22J Quantum team.

The Taco Bell/Pottsie’s Pilot Service #3 QRC of Scott Fox from Oakland was second followed by San Tan Valley, Arizona’s Shawn Miller in third piloting the Patrick and Jerry Dills owned All Season Equipment/Jerry Dills Trucking/Weeman’s Small Engine Repair/Inside Line Promotions #5D QRC. The balance of the top five would consist of Roseburg driver Stephen Morganstern, driving for kart owner Erin Lyons to a fourth place finish in the Puppy Love Dog Treats/Hull Family Photography/Grandma Enterprises/Independent Motor Rebuilders #98E QRC, and fifth was Bailey Hibbard.

Last but not least the Micro Sprints would be out in full force. Springfield’s Evan Manasco would seize the early race lead but would spin. On the ensuing restart Nathan Rhodes of Cottage Grove would put his Rhodes Racing #93 machine in front. Rhodes would lead for some time until the Manasco Racing/Oregon Tool and Supply/Eddy Sanders Racing Engines #2K A.R.T. of Manasco would retake the lead. Manasco would lead the rest of the way to win the race.

Nathan Rhodes was second followed by the Rhodes Racing #76S of Cottage Grove James Perkins in third. Completing the finishing order was Paul Rhodes of Cottage Grove in the Rhodes Racing #55 entry in fourth.

The Karts will take a couple of weeks and will return on Friday September 26th for Championship Night. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
