Inside Line Promotions – MT POCONO, Pa. (June 15, 2021) – Joey Amantea saw rain dampen his plans of racing in three micro sprint races last week. However, the time away from the track allotted more time in the shop for Amantea as he prepares for one of the biggest weeks of racing in his young career.

Amantea is set to compete in five nights of racing with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars during the 2021 Eastern Storm Tour. The 14th edition of the tour will see Amantea head to Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., on Tuesday; Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., on Wednesday; Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., on Thursday; Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa., on Saturday; and the newly built Bloomsburg Fair Raceway in Bloomsburg, Pa., on Sunday.

“We didn’t get any racing in last week so we figured why not do a ton of racing next week,” he said. “We know we’re biting off quite a bit trying to run with these guys, but we’re excited for the opportunity and looking forward to the challenge.”

Amantea and his team attempted to obtain a 410ci sprint car engine to compete with the series, but will ultimately tackle all five races with the use of a 360ci engine. While he knows that his team will compete down on power compared to many others in the field, it’s the experience Amantea will gain behind the wheel against some of the best non-wing drivers in the country that will be most beneficial to him long-term. His goals are to qualify for the A Main in each event and to make as many laps as possible.

“We thought about the 410 and we had a ton of interest, but figured it didn’t make a lot of sense to spend the money on one for just this week when we’re committed to the 360 deal,” he said. “Guys have qualified for races before with their 360 motors and we’ve got quality engines in our stable, so we’re going to do the best with what we have and keep learning.”

Amantea is rolling out his freshly rebuilt, black paint scheme race car. The team has been utilizing their red car since a crash in early April at Port Royal Speedway and they are looking forward to the opportunity to shake down the equipment in anticipation for what will be a busy racing schedule going forward.

“Our red car has been great, but we felt really confident about the black car before we wrecked it,” he said. “It’ll be good to bring it back out as we really only intended to run that one all season, so we’re looking forward to getting it back on the track.”

Amantea enters the five-race tilt having previously competed at all the tracks on the schedule except for the newly constructed Bloomsburg Fair Raceway. The event will be the first race at the track of any kind and Amantea is excited for the opportunity to be part of history in the making.

“Originally we were supposed to be part of their first race ever with the USAC 360 series, but the track wasn’t ready yet,” he said. “So to get out there against the 410 guys on a completely neutral track will not only be cool from a history perspective, but it should give us a leg up on the competition when they run our rescheduled race later this season.”
