Weekend Rewind: American Sprint Car Series

TULSA, Okla. (September 8, 2014) - ASCS Regional action took the stage this past weekend as the Frontier, Gulf South, Midwest, Sooner, and West Texas 305 Regions competed in Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
The weekend saw six events contested with just as many winners, setting the stage for several regional points' battles as the 2014 works into its closing months for the ASCS Nation.
The Winners:
Saturday, September 6, 2014
• Ray Allen Kulhanek (Gulf South) - The defending Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Regional Champion set sail at the Leesville 171 Speedway in Leesville, La. for his second triumph of the season and fifth podium appearance.
• Jack Dover (Midwest) - For the second year in a row, Jack Dover topped action in what could be called the "Prelude to the Nebraska Cup" at the Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb. The win is Dover's third in ASCS competition this season.
• Joe Ramaker (Frontier) - For the sixth time in 2014, Joe Ramaker topped action with the ASCS Frontier Region, this time at the Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. The Idaho driver's second win of the year at the Montana oval, Joe looks to sew up the 2014 title this weekend at the BMP Speedway.
• Cesar Fuentes (West Texas 305) - ¡Viva México! were the parting words of Cesar Fuentes after grabbing his second victory of the season with the West Texas ASCS 305cid Region at the Southern New Mexico Speedway. The Ciudad Juárez, Mexico driver currently leads the regional standings by 70 points.

• Seth Bergman (Sooner) - A weekend off from the National Tour, Seth Bergman cruised into the West Siloam Speedway and walked away with $2,000 in his pocket. Despite damage to the front wing, Bergman was able to pull away by as much as a straight-a-way during the feature event.
• Brian Brown (Midwest) - Make it three wins in a row for Brian Brown, and back-to-back wins in ASCS competition as "Blackjack" was perfect at the Eagle Raceway for a nice $5,000 prize in the Nebraska Cup.
News and Notes from the Weekend:
• Lights Out - Truck plus guy-wire equals power outage. For over an hour, the West Siloam Speedway sat in the light of a full moon as everyone waited for the power company to arrive. Despite the delay, the ASCS Sooner Region's portion of the show was done around 10:00 P.M. (CT).
• Jumping in to Help - Joe Perry broke the upright tube that holds the Panhard Bar in place during his Heat Race with the Frontier Region at the Gallatin Speedway. Coming to Regional Director, Mike Quigley, to scratch for the evening, Quigley refused to allow Perry to be done, stepping in with any parts and pieces he could find. In finding everything needed to replace the tube, a local Modified driver named Paul Leach stepped in and welded the bar back in place. Perry ended up fourth in the feature.
• One Thing After Another - Leading in his Heat Race on Sunday night, Dustin Morgan fell two corners shy of winning after the throttle linkage broke on the Ark Wrecking No. 93. Putting Morgan last in the A-Feature lineup, Dustin ran the highline to fourth, but again had his night cut short as the brakes faded away.
• Late Race Pass - Reported by Andrew Kunas, the rubber was down at the Gallatin Speedway and tires were worn out as Joe Ramaker worked past Jeremy McCune on a restart with two laps to run for his sixth win of the year. McCune was quoted as saying, "That red flag killed us. The tire sealed over, and we had four nights on that tire already. It's gone."
• Finally - Third time's a charm it seems for the Gulf South Region to make their return to Louisiana as events at the Leesville 171 Speedway sawn Ray Allen Kulhanek in Victory Lane. Rained out on July 19, the race's second attempt on August 30 also fell to rain. Moving the date to September 6, fans were delighted to have the Sprint Cars back in town.
• Sticking the Landing - Jason Orth snapped an interesting picture of Josh Baughman's ride on Sunday night as the Energy Equipment No. 17x sat with the nose to the sky between the wall and the catch fence in turn four after the Odessa driver nearly left the park. Josh was okay after the crash.
• Through the Field - The Speedway Motors Midwest Region saw several hard chargers over the weekend. Starting at the Junction Motor Speedway, Danny Lasoski climbed 13 spots with Don Droud, Jr. up 11 in the night's Feature event. Jason Johnson's eleven spot climb on Sunday at the Eagle Raceway put him as the night's Hard Charger.
• Class Leaders - In the whole of ASCS 360cid competition, Seth Bergman and Joe Ramaker lead the way with six wins each. Seth Bergman has entered 38 ASCS events in 2014 with 36 A-Feature starts yielding 27 top tens and 14 top fives. Ramaker's 14 Frontier Regional showing has 13 A-Features with a dozen top tens and 11 top fives.
Looking to next weekend:
The Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real returns to action at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track and the Port-a-Cool U.S. Dirt Track National Championship. The weekend will also include the Lone Star and Sooner Regions. Races are scheduled for Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13.
The Frontier Region caps off the 2014 season this weekend as the BMP Speedway on Friday, September 12 and Saturday, September 13. Joe Ramaker leads the way by 89 going into the final rounds.
The Speedway Motors Warrior Region is also in action on Saturday, September 13 at the U.S. 36 Raceway in Cameron, Mo.
