Inside Line Promotions – PEORIA, Ariz. (Oct. 18, 2017) – Joshua Shipley produced another podium finish last Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park with the ASCS Southwest Region.

“I drew a bad pill for the heat race and had to start fifth,” he said. “I got up to third, but then there was a yellow and I ended up finishing fourth.”

Shipley’s heat race finish was enough to get him and the Alan and Kaylene Verville owned team into the feature redraw, in which Shipley drew the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“I started sixth in the feature and by the time the yellow came out on Lap 3 I was already up to second,” he said. “On the restart, the guy in third went to the high side and I went to the bottom. We split the leader coming off of turn two and had a really good race going on for a couple laps.”

The leader got out in front of Shipley, who said he didn’t have anything for him. Shipley decided to settle into second place.

“With a couple of laps to go the car started getting really tight and I got passed and finished the race in third,” he said. “We were happy with our performance. We ran in the front all night and it was a pretty rough track.”

Shipley gave praise to his crew chief, Alan, for setting the car up to manage the rough conditions of the track.

“We’ve been running really well and it was good to get back on the podium,” Shipley said. “It really gave us a lot of momentum for the rest of the races this year.”

Shipley is currently ranked fourth in the championship standings and could potentially break into third place if he runs the three-day show at Cocopah Speedway in Yuma, Ariz., in early November. The event is co-sanctioned with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“We need some help sponsor-wise to make that happen,” Shipley said. “Otherwise we won’t be able to make the show and will probably fall to fifth in points. It would be awesome to go and be able to finish third in points in my rookie season.”
