Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 6, 2017) – Sammy Swindell will make his debut at Cocopah Speedway this weekend during the final event of the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Swindell is slated to drive for Terry Steward and Scott Brown Thursday through Saturday at the 3/8-mile oval in Somerton, Ariz., where he missed the lone World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event in 1991 because he was competing in NASCAR and was unable to compete in January 2016 during the Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown because of a last-minute team decision.

“It’s a new car and new team, but I’ve done that several times this year and most of them we’ve either won races or had good finishes,” Swindell said. “I’m hoping that will continue. Those guys have a good car and have won some races this year. I’m hoping my job will be pretty easy and we can come away with wins.”

Swindell has eight victories this season, including during three of his last four starts with the ASCS National Tour.

He is coming off his final event of the season driving for A.G. Rains, which was last weekend during the Textron Off Road World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

The duo kicked off the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event on Thursday by qualifying 20th quickest in their group for Friday’s show and eighth quickest in their group for Saturday’s program.

“Not running that car with a 410 that much, the little bit we’d run at Lakeside Speedway and the few laps at Salina Highbanks Speedway, we unloaded the car and it was close to being spot on,” he said. “We were just working on the motor side of it. We got that better, but unfortunately we had a parts failure. It ended what could have been a strong weekend.”

It was an up and down weekend for the team, which was slowed by a master cylinder issue that had the brakes on during the qualifying session for Friday. The team overcame that problem in the heat race by maneuvering from seventh to third place to earn a spot in the A Main. However, a bleeder problem in the left rear tire hampered the team in the main event.

“Where you plug the bleeder into the wheel got plugged up with some dirt,” he said. “It was fine on the long run. On the restart at the end it got us way off. We had over nine pounds of air in the left rear when we came in. It didn’t quite work out in what could have been a good finish.”

Swindell dropped to an 18th-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with Swindell running in the third-and-final lock-in position to the main event throughout his heat race before a mechanical problem on the final lap ended the weekend early.
