Olson, Cordes top Urbana 5 make-up features at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 21, 2024) – One week was worth the wait for Kyle Olson and Troy Cordes.

The July 14 Urbana 5 Memorial program was cut short due to rain, forcing the postponement of the headlining events to July 21 at Benton County Speedway.

Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods were the top attraction for the 10th annual event with a $1,500-to-win 20-lap feature.

Olson assumed the early command from his pole position start while the field gave chase. Running the low groove, Olson raced into the lead while Cole Fenske pursued on the top side of the fast, smooth quarter-mile.

Although pressured periodically throughout, Olson withstood all challenges to lead the event in its entirety on his way to the big payday. Logan Anderson made a late push to secure runner-up honors ahead of Fenske and Brayton Carter.

Likewise, Cordes set sail early in the $1,100-to-win 25-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Wright Way Trailers.

While Cordes led, Joel Rust worked into contention from the third row. Rust applied occasional pressure to the leader, however Cordes raced to the victory. Rust ran second ahead of Jeff Aikey, who started in row six. Ben Chapman finished fourth.

A full slate of IMCA weekly racing was also held Sunday night.

In the regular feature for Modifieds, Drew Janssen won a hard-fought battle over Trevor Fitz to take top honors. Chapman and Cordes ran third and fourth, respectively.

Tony Olson beat Kyle Olson to the checkers in the weekly feature for the SportMods. Dylan VanWyk ran third and Fenske was fourth.

Kaden Reynolds came home the winner in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company. Reynolds traded the top spot numerous times with John Oliver Jr. before racing to his fifth win of the year. Shaun Bistline and Leah Wroten completed the top four.

Nathan Ballard motored to his seventh win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by iHeart Radio. Brayden Fahrni, Justin Stander and Justin Wacha rounded out the top four.

Robert Rundle raced to his first win in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Rundle withstood repeated pressure from Lukas Rick to earn his first Bullring win. Aaron Kirkpatrick and Spencer Roggentien chased the lead pair to the checkers.

Michael Weber earned his third win of the season in the INEX Legends presented by Legends.Direct. Weber held off a charge from Kacey Korsmo to drive to victory. Colton Utley and Adam Meyer completed the top four.
