MATT HILL CAPTURES CRATE MODEL THRILLER

A determined Matt Hill came out on top in a great battle in the 15-lap Crate Model feature. Sparky White set fast time in qualifying but a ten car inversion draw would put Robbie Walls, Jr. on the pole. Matt Hill, who started in seventh, jumped to the outside groove at the drop of the green and by the end of the first lap was running third behind Walls, Jr. and Mike Wilson.

 

As Hill worked his way into second Joe Warren began to charge through the top five but clipped a tire going into three while making a bid for third and spun. On the restart, Hill went to work on Walls, Jr. taking the lead on lap six. Mike Wharton was cutting through the pack and by halfway was running in second behind Hill.

 

A restart with four to go put Wharton on the tail of Hill and Wharton was able to edge into the lead at the stripe with two to go. Hill never abandoned his high groove and regained the top spot in the second turn. He was able to hold off Wharton on the final circuit to post his sixth win of the season. Walls, Jr. ended a solid drive in third with Sparky White coming from tenth to finish in fourth and rookie Steve Baker rounded out the top five.
