Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 8, 2020) – Mason Daniel showed speed throughout his debut at Huset’s Speedway last weekend.

“I really like that track,” he said. “The first night in the main event the track was abrasive, but early in the night it was a good surface.”

Daniel qualified 22nd quickest and advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race to lock into the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series main event on Saturday. High winds invaded the area prior to the A Main and the track took rubber quickly.

“The rubber started so soon,” he said. “I had blistered off my right rear tire and was trying to limp it home the last half of the race. We had an open red come out and my crew told me I was on chords. Those last six laps I was just trying to make it to the checkered flag. It blew with two laps to go so I just pulled into the infield.”

Daniel was credited with an 18th-place result.

The track surface was quicker on Sunday and Daniel showed improvement from the opener. He qualified seventh quickest in his group and placed fourth in a heat race to once again lock into the main event.

“The car felt really good and the track was really fast,” he said. “I was the same speed as Sheldon (Haudenschild) in the heat as we battled for third. He got me on the start and then I just maintained with him.”

Daniel lined up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

“I maintained for a while and then I got tight on the cushion and pulled the nose over so I lost a few spots,” he said. “A bit after that someone got sideways in front of me and I had nowhere to go. We made contact with the spinning car and we ended up flipping. It’s not the way we wanted to end the night or two days that had a lot of positives.”

Daniel was unable to finish the race.

“We’ve picked up a lot of confidence over the last three weekends,” he said. “I think we’re definitely going the right way.”

Daniel will head to Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., for the Boot Hill Showdown this Friday and Saturday.

“I’m excited to get back to that place,” he said. “I was really comfortable in the car last year. I showed up to a new track and it suited my driving style. We made the dash one night. Hopefully we can have similar speed this year.”
