Race Called on Account of Dust?!?

Terre Haute, IN–Terre Haute Action Track–“Sumar Classic 100” (7/3/11)–Heavy rain made its way into the Terre Haute area on Saturday night causing race day Sunday to be a long day for drivers, officials, crews, and fans. We had hoped to run according to schedule on Sunday, but the track was in terrible condition and led to the postponement of the race hour after hour after hour. Once the track officials felt track conditions were favorable, practice finally began. Hagar went out for two practice sessions, came in to make adjustments, and prepared for qualifying. Hagar earned the 9th starting position out of the 25-car field with a qualifying time of 23.634.

As pace laps began for the feature, the dust began to rise as well. Many drivers complained about not being able to see very well; however, the green flag fell. Hagar luckily made his way through a massive cloud of dust that encompassed the track and stands within seconds. Hagar stated, “it was like being in a dark room. I couldn’t see anything and was praying I wouldn’t hit anyone and that no one would hit me.” Once the dust began to settle, Tom Meseraull was seen flipping down the back straightaway. The red flag was thrown and drivers were pushed back to the pit area while officials met and decided upon rescheduling the race for a later date. Hagar was sitting in 5th position when the race came to the abrupt halt.

*Date is yet to be announced for the rescheduling of this race.
