'SUPER' MATT SHINES AGAIN AT UTICA-ROME
VERNON, NY...Utica-Rome Speedway held their Kid's Night program Friday night, presented by the Friendly Family of Dealerships and Slade Automotive, which featured bounce houses for the kids and a backpack giveaway during intermission.
In the 3 Bastards Brewing Modified feature, Matt Janczuk outran Randy Shantel to take the early lead. Willy Decker battled Janczuk for the lead as Rocky Warner and Matt Sheppard moved into third and fourth by lap 5. Decker took the lead on lap 8 as Sheppard and Warner continued to battled for third with Alex Yankowski cracking the top five on lap 11. Yankowski grabbed third on lap 13 as Sheppard, who had taken second, ran down Decker for the race lead. Sheppard took the top spot on a lap 15 restart and Yankowski moved to second three laps later, whiel Cody Clark moved into a battle for fifth with Warner. Sheppard pulled away as Warner retook fifth and then moved past Janczuk for fourth on lap 23. Sheppard cruised home for another win with Yankowski second, followed by Decker, Warner, and Janczuk.
3 Bastards Brewing Modified heats were won by Matt Janczuk and Matt Sheppard.
The Taylor's Trailers Crate 602 Sportsman feature began with Garret Chillot grabbing the early lead. Tyler Peet and Peyton Tablot battled for position just outside the top five as Stephen Denton and Seth Martin pulled away behind Chillot to a solid second and third. A lap 6 yellow bunched the field for a restart, and Peet and Talbot began to work into the top five as Chillot extended his lead. The duo moved into second and third on lap 11 and on a lap 12 restart they went high and low to pass Chillot, with Peet taking the lead. Martin spun out of the top five on lap 15 as Talbot grabbed second. Peet and Talbot battled for the lead until Talbot got the lead on a lap 18 restart and was able to pull away for the win. Peet finished second, followed by Mike Richmond, David Hackett, and Josh Coonradt.
Taylor's Trailers Crate 602 Sportsman heats were won by Brett Mortensen, Seth Martin, and Connor Prokop.
In the Next Generation Graphix Pro Stock feature, a wild scramble saw the top ten cars all battling side by side and three wide in the opening laps. Once things settled in, George Cushman took the lead from Toby Cooper while Jim Normoyle raced side by side with AJ Walters for third. Devon Camengea was also on the move, racing three wide with Normoyle and Walters while Cushman had built a huge lead at the front. Luke Horning cracked the top five at lap 13 and started to pick cars off, moving into third on lap 15. At the finish, Cushman took the win in a caution-free event, with Camengea and Horning following. Walters and Slater Baker rounded out the top five.
Next Generation Graphix Pro Stock heats were won by Jim Normoyle and Brett Belden.
The Fastline Performance Limited Sportsman ran two features Friday night, the first being a makeup from a rainout on June 13th. In the heldover feature, Jayden Wust took the lead on lap 2 and built a lead until he got into lapped traffic, which allowed Chris Darling to close in. Wust held on for the win over Darling, with Lance Hill taking third. Ernie Satelens and Matt Bukovan completed the top five. In the regular night's feature, Mike Evans led till Darling took the lead on lap 5 with Jayden Wust coming from eighth to third at halfway. Wust got to second on lap 16 but Darling was too far ahead and took the win. Wust was second, followed by Matt Bukovan, Evans, and Hill.
In the JB's Sewer and Septic 4 Cylinder division, Jeff Connolly took the lead at the drop of the green and went wire to wire to take the win as the top finishing DOHC car. Wayne Russell Jr finished second and was the top finishing SOHC entry, followed by Chris Hemsreet, Hank Wedgren, and Hank Wedgren Jr.
The Ted's Body Shop All Star Slingshot feature saw Brayden Ketchum and Brett Putnam battle for the lead for the entire 20-lap distance, with Ketchum holding Putnam off by a car length at the finish for the win. Tadd Granger, Paul Holic, and Kevin Lovelss completed the top five.

In the Diaz Aviation Junior Slinghot main, Brody Janczuk went wire to wire to take the feature win over Blake Banek, Preston Trautschold, Jaxx Welch, and Wyatt Wilmot.

The next event at Utica-Rome Speedway will be on Friday, August 1st when Broedel Fuel Group presents Appreciation Night for First Responders, Police, and Nurses, who will be admitted free.
