Lutz, Catalano, Bryant, Jankowiak, and Hessler Take Home Lancaster Checkered Flags

LANCASTER, N.Y. (August 2, 2025) – Jake Lutz from Hamburg, NY earned the $3,000 payday in the 40-lap Tour-Type Modified feature event at Lancaster Motorplex on Saturday night. Tyler Catalano from Ontario, NY won his second career Sportsman feature, and second of the season. Nathan Bryant from East Aurora, NY won his second Street Stock feature of the season. Andy Jankowiak from Tonawanda, NY won his second Mighty TQ Midgets feature of the season. Ryan Hessler from Kenmore, NY won the 4 Cylinder feature event.

Jake Lutz and Trevor Catalano shared the front row for the 40-lap, $3,000 to win special for the Tour-Type Modifieds, with Lutz in the lead ahead of Catalano and Tony Hanbury. Tommy Catalano would quickly move into the top three and by lap 16, was challenging his brother Trevor for second place. Tommy would pass his brother Trevor for second place, as Lutz started to open his lead. Andy Jankowiak would move into fourth place on lap 26, with Timmy Catalano taking over fifth from Hanbury on lap 27. Lutz would go on to earn his third Lancaster win of the season ahead of Tommy Catalano, Trevor Catalano, Andy Jankowiak, and Timmy Catalano.

Tyler Catalano and Tony Carbone were on the front row for the Sportsman feature, with Carbone taking over the lead ahead of Catalano, Shawn Nye, Tony Hanbury, and Andrew Nye. Catalano would take over the lead from Carbone on lap five, with Shawn Nye and Hanbury giving chase. Nye would take over second on lap seven, with Hanbury moving into third just one lap later. Tommy Rought would bring out the caution on lap 10 as he hit the turn one wall. The restart would see Catalano and Nye on the front row, with Catalano in the lead. Hanbury would take over second place on lap 12, just as Andy Jankowiak entered the top five. Chris Pennell spun on the front straightaway to bring out the caution on lap 16. Catalano would continue to show the way on the restart, as Nye would reclaim second from Hanbury, as Andy Jankowiak and Trevor Catalano raced in the top five. Jankowiak would take third from Hanbury on lap 23 and would chase down Shawn Nye. Catalano would hold off Nye and Jankowiak to score his second win of the season.

Mike Piccirilli and Nik Welshans brought the Street Stocks to the green flag for their feature event, with Welshans in the lead. Dustin Novoa would take over second place on lap three, with Dan Dressel taking over third place from polesitter Piccirilli. Nathan Bryant and Mark Hoch battled for fourth place for several laps, while also reeling in third place running Dressel. Novoa would take over the lead on lap 10, just as Bryant would pass both Hoch and Dressel to move into third place. David Brunka spun in turn two and collected Troyer Catalano to bring out the caution on lap 12. On the restart, Novoa would take off in the lead ahead of Bryant, Welshans, Hoch, and Dressel. Bryant would close in on Novoa for the lead. The caution would come back out on lap 20, as Marty Kling spun in turn two. While under caution, Nik Welshans’s night would end as the rear axle snapped on the front stretch. Novoa, Bryant, Hoch, and Max Northem battled in the top four in the closing laps. Bryant would take over the lead coming to the white flag and would go on to score the win.

Vinnie Christiano Jr and Tony Petrea were on the front row for the Mighty TQ Midgets feature, with Christiano Jr in the lead. The red flag would come out as Moose Rutherford flipped and slid down the front straightaway. Moose was able to refire his car and pull it into the pit area under his own power. Christiano would continue to show the way on the restart, as Andy Jankowiak would pass Petrea to move into second place. Jankowiak would take off with the lead on lap three, with Brian Schulz in second ahead of Kyle Hutchinson. Schulz would start to close in on Jankowiak in the final laps, but it was Andy J scoring his second win of the season, and ninth career TQ Midget victory at Lancaster. J

Ben Adams and Connor Kurdziel brought the 4 Cylinders to the green flag for their main event, with Hunter McKay taking the lead early ahead of Adams, Ryan Hessler, Kyle Casper, and Chris Deyoe Jr. Deyoe would take over second on lap six. While working lap traffic, Ben Adams would make contact with Emily Garlock, sending the 26 flipping against the turn two wall. Adams climbed out of his car under his own power. On the restart, McKay would continue to show the way ahead of Deyoe and Hessler. The caution would come out on lap 13 as the lead duo made contact and spun into the infield. Ryan Hessler would hold off Kyle Casper to score his first career win on the Lancaster ¼-mile oval.

Racing returns on Saturday, August 16th for the 36th Annual Tribute to Tommy Druar and Tony Jankowiak featuring the Race of Champions Modified Series. Joining the Race of Champions Modifieds will be the Street Stocks, Mighty TQ Midgets, the Rusty Diamond Cores Pro 4’s, and the King Wolf Productions Big Wheels. Pit gates will open at 2pm, with grandstand gates opening at 4pm, and racing will get underway at 6pm.
