Hafertepe Jr. Heads to Eldora Speedway With Eye on Consistency
Inside Line Promotions - MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2013) - Last weekend was the summation of how this season has gone for Sam Hafertepe Jr.
"I feel like this season we've been a little bit off all the time," he said. "We've had moments of greatness, but not a lot of consistency. We're still searching for a nice baseline. It's right around the corner. That's our main goal through the end of the year, obviously to be competitive and to sustain some type of consistency going into the offseason."
Hafertepe Jr. narrowly missed the heat race inversion during qualifying both nights of the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series final visit this season to Williams Grove Speedway for the 51st annual National Open.
"Both nights we were a little bit off in qualifying and it put us behind the eight ball," he said. "The first night we got through the heat race. But we started in the back of the feature and weren't going anywhere so I pulled off."
After driving his way into a feature lock-in position during his heat race on Friday, Hafertepe Jr. placed 28th in the main.
"The track was real greasy early the second night," he said. "As it progressed throughout qualifying the times got better. It put us so far behind we couldn't get out of the heat. In the B Main we weren't great either and kinda just held our own."
Hafertepe Jr. narrowly missed picking up a transfer through the Last Chance Showdown on Saturday.
His focus now shifts to Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for this Saturday's UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions event. Hafertepe Jr. won a pair of World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series heat races at the famed half-mile track in May and he is looking to start off on the right foot again this Saturday.
"It's normally a pretty good race track for us," he said. "The goal going in there is to win and we feel like we have a good opportunity to do that. We've got to get our car balanced right and we should be up front."
