Hafertepe Jr. Shooting for Winter Nationals Wins During Final Weekend in Home State

Inside Line Promotions – SUNNYVALE, Texas (Oct. 13, 2014) – There’s a little bit of added energy when Sam Hafertepe Jr. competes in his home state.

“It’s always great to be able to race in front of your family and friends,” he said. “I think it builds more pressure because you have that added incentive. That can be a positive thing and it’s something we’re looking forward to this weekend.”

Hafertepe Jr. is set to race for the final time in Texas this weekend when he tackles the 41st annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite on Friday and Saturday.

“That’s a pretty fun track,” he said. “We have a lot of laps around there and have wins there, so I’m excited that it’s next on the schedule.”

Hafertepe Jr. has picked up a victory at the half-mile oval in three of the past four seasons, including once earlier this season.

“Our expectation is to be in contention for the win on both Friday and Saturday,” he said. “We’ve had a fast car all season. As long as we don’t get caught up in any crashes or have any bad luck, I think we will be one of the cars to beat.”

Hafertepe Jr., who has earned a series-leading four feature victories, ranks fourth in the championship standings. He is only two points out of third place, 12 out of second and 74 from the lead.
