Kraig Kinser Chases First Win of 2014 & Initial Eldora Victory this Weekend
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — April 30, 2014— Kraig Kinser came pretty close to winning with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series last weekend, leading laps at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Missouri, as well as finishing on the podium at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Oklahoma. Along with looking for his first win of the season, the third-generation driver is also chasing his first triumph at the famed Eldora Speedway. He’ll have a couple of opportunities to achieve both this weekend as the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series makes their first of three separate visits to the legendary track for a two-night event.
The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event at Eldora Speedway is scheduled for Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3. A full race program will commence each night, beginning with hot laps, followed by time trials, heat races, a dash, Last Chance Showdown and a 30-lap A-Feature event.
“We feel like we have some good momentum from last weekend to take to Eldora (Speedway),” said Kinser. “The banked tracks have treated us pretty well this year and that’s what we’ll face at Eldora. It sounds like there is going to be a very strong field of cars, so it’s going to be important to put yourself in a good position at the beginning of the night.”
Last season at Eldora, Kinser made three feature event starts in the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim. The native of Bloomington, Ind., finished sixth in the Kings Royal, working his way forward from the 11th starting position. Kinser was 18th in the finale of the spring event, after not qualifying for the main event on the opening night. He was 20th in the Knight Before the Kings Royal.
Kinser has made 42 main event starts with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Eldora, including in preliminary features dating back to 2001. He finished third in 2005, which to date marks his best finish with the series at the legendary high-banked, half-mile. Kinser has 13 career top-10 finishes with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Eldora, with four of those being top-five performances. The 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals has raced at the venue in seven different seasons during his career.
Kinser finished a season-best third last weekend at Salina Highbanks Speedway in Oklahoma, and was eighth at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Missouri. He enters this weekend 10th in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings, with 19 race events in the books.
“Last weekend, we got ourselves in the dash both nights and that was certainly the key to putting us in contention,” he noted. “The competition is so tight right now and starting up front is definitely a key. We've seen a couple people win from a little further back this year, but for the most part, it's been from the first few rows. We've been working hard on our qualifying program and feel like we are making some strides. Hopefully that continues at Eldora.”
Kraig Kinser Racing would like to thank Casey’s General Stores, Mesilla Valley Transportation, King Racing Products, Maxim, Aerodine Composites, Sander Engineering, Integra Shocks, All Star Performance, FK Rod Ends, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Bell, KSE Racing Products, ButlerBuilt, Schoenfeld Headers, Donovan Engineering, Fel-Pro, Brodix, Wilwood, Dyer’s, Barnes Systems, Ringer Gloves, Jakes Custom Golf Carts, and Ben Cook Racing Limited for their continued support.
