Kraig Kinser Focusing on Consistency This Year as Season Begins at DIRTcar Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Feb. 5, 2019) – Consistency is the key word for Kraig Kinser this year.

Kinser, who is riding a streak of nine consecutive seasons with a top-10 finish in the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series championship standings, wants to get back to the level of consistently finishing in the top five and top 10 as he returns to the Outlaws slate in 2019.

“Consistency is something that every team should strive for,” he said. “You want to hit consistency because you know what you’ve got at the track. If you’re not consistent you need to make changes. If you consistently run up front you’re where you need to be. It’s a big thing. You can have a good night here or there, but consistency is really what you look for. Hopefully it’s consistently fast.”

The season begins this week with a pair of Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions races preceding the opening tripleheader for the World of Outlaws. All five races are hosted by Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., with the DIRTcar Nationals kicking off this Wednesday.

“We’ve started at Volusia for quite some time,” he said. “It’s a good gauging point. You have a couple of non-points races before the season begins to see where you are. Volusia can be really racy, a really fun track. It’s a very quick track. With the air so good that time of year it’s harder on engines and it takes a good engine there. It’s a big test out of the gate.”

Last year Kinser placed 15th, 16th and 13th, respectively, during the Outlaws tripleheader and he charged from 23rd to 12th during the DIRTcar Nationals finale in 2017. His most recent top 10 during a World of Outlaws race at Volusia Speedway Park was in 2014 with a ninth-place run. However, Kinser’s last top 10 at the oval was a charge from 22nd to sixth place in 2017 during an All Stars show.

“You have to put yourself in position so qualifying is the first factor to help you get there,” he said. “A lot of cars show up down there so anything you can do to put yourself in that position, whether it’s qualifying in the top 10, running well in your heat, you need to put together good outings and the finishes will come.”
