Inside Line Promotions – BARBERVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2019) – Kraig Kinser made progress in each of four features last week during the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.

The action kicked off on Wednesday with the first of two straight Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions shows. Kinser qualified 28th quickest overall, but was unable to start a heat race because of a torque tube and torque ball problem. That relegated him to the B Main and despite charging from 10th to fifth place, he came up just shy of a transfer position into the main event.

Kinser’s best result of the week came the following night at the half-mile oval, where he timed in 24th quickest overall and fifth in his group. A fifth-place run in a heat race locked him into the main event, in which he powered from 19th to 13th.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series opened its season on Friday with Kinser qualifying 12th quickest overall. He was running second and in a position to make the dash when a problem with the u-joint sent him pitside midway through the heat race.

“We were running second and had a chance to get in the dash and start up front and just couldn’t capitalize,” he said. “It’s the beginning of the year and the track is hard on equipment. If there are any weak spots it will find them.”

Kinser rebounded by placing third in the Last Chance Showdown before rallying from 23rd to 15th in the A Main. That was the second-most cars passed in the feature.

Kinser timed in 18th quickest, finished sixth in a heat and gained a trio of positions to post a 15th-place finish on Saturday before Sunday’s event finale rained out.

“We lacked a little speed in qualifying all week, but I felt like we raced well when the track slicked off,” he said. “I felt like our car was in a good position. We were just too far back in the beginning and we tried to play catch up.

“You try to take all the positives and a positive is we were going forward in the A Mains. We just have to address the issue of starting up front.”

Kinser will take this weekend off before competing on Feb. 22 at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, and Feb. 23 at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, during the East Texas LoneStar Shootout with the World of Outlaws.
