Strong East Coast Swing Vaults Joey Saldana Back into World of Outlaws Championship Lead: Just 20 Points Separate Top-Three
Concord, NC—May 16, 2010—Joey Saldana used three Top-Five finishes during the first East Coast swing of the season to move back into the top spot in the World of Outlaws championship standings for the second time this year, as he currently leads 20-time series champion Steve Kinser by 13 markers. The veteran scored a runner-up finish last Thursday night at Williams Grove Speedway and followed that up with a fourth-place finish on Friday at the half-mile. Saldana wrapped up the weekend with another runner-up performance at Virginia Motor Speedway.
Kinser picked up a couple of Top-Five finishes along with a Top-10 to bring his series leading total to 17 Top-10 finishes on the season. He came from 25th to finish 10th in the opener at Williams Grove and charged all the way from 25th to fifth in the finale, while wrapping up the weekend with a fourth-place effort at Virginia Motor Speedway. Kinser is tied with Saldana for the series lead in Top-Five finishes with 13.
Jason Meyers picked up his series leading fifth win of the season on Saturday night at Virginia Motor Speedway after setting fast time to earn five bonus points, following 12th and 13th-place finished at Williams Grove. The California native has 15 Top-10 finishes with 10 of those being Top-Fives in the first 18 races of the season as he chases his first series title.
Donny Schatz remains fourth in points after he finished third at Virginia Motor Speedway to rebound from a vicious accident on Friday night at Williams Grove.
