Kinser Records Pair of Top 15s During Opening Weekend of Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown

Inside Line Promotions – SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 5, 2016) – Steve Kinser powered to a pair of top-15 finishes last weekend during the opening two rounds of the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown at Cocopah Speedway.

Kinser, who is driving under the Steve Kinser Racing banner with primary partnership from Arctic Cat throughout the marquee event, kicked off the action last Friday by charging from 10th to fourth place during a heat race at the 3/8-mile oval.

Unfortunately, bad luck hampered the team during the qualifier, which Kinser ended eighth following a parts failure.

“The night was going good and then we had a fuel line come apart on us,” he said. “That put us behind the eight ball.”

Kinser rebounded in a B Main by placing second to earn a transfer into the 30-lap feature, where he lined up on the outside of the 10th row.

“We felt good and the car was fast,” he said. “The track laid rubber and we couldn’t go anywhere about five or six laps into the feature.”

Kinser passed five cars – tied for second most – to score a 15th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Cocopah Speedway, where the Arctic Cat backed team finished fifth in a heat race and second in a qualifier to lock into the 13th-starting position for the 30-lap main event.

“We sealed the tires up in the feature on the second caution,” he said. “We were racing on ice at that point. We were just holding our own at the end and trying to salvage as many spots as we could.”

Kinser posted a 14th-place finish to cap the weekend.

The Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown resumes on Wednesday before the event wraps up on Friday and Saturday.
