Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 5, 2013) – Big Game Motorsports teammates Sammy Swindell and Craig Dollansky are looking to push the win column to double digits as the season ends this weekend.
The duo has combined for nine World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series feature victories entering the 7th annual World Finals Thursday through Saturday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, which will be taped for a delayed television broadcast by CBS Sports Network. Thursday is a qualifying only event for the Friday and Saturday programs, which will wrap up the season.
“If you come out of there with the wins it’s pretty positive,” Swindell said. “It gives you a lead in for next year knowing that you’re pretty confident where you are at. That’s what we’re looking at. We’re trying some things to get better and at the same time to give us a direction for next year.”
Last year, Swindell, who claimed the inaugural World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series race at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in 2000, took the lead with three laps remaining and powered the Big Game Treestands car to a victory during one of the World Finals races.
In 2011, he charged from 21st to sixth and placed second in the two main events. Swindell also ended third during a race at the unique track in 2010.
“It’s a circle is the biggest thing,” he said. “It’s like you’re always turning. You just have to run it that way and set your car up accordingly. It’s just a different setup. A place with tight turns might be where you give up getting into that corner to get off (the corner). When it’s a circle, if you’re not tight enough getting in you never can make it up. You can’t carry the speed.”
Dollansky, who led the first 15 laps of the season finale last year, has driven the Eyecon Trail Cameras car to several top-five finishes at the event with 2011 being his best year at the World Finals. Dollansky finished third and fourth in the two features. He also placed fourth in a race in 2009 and set quick time during qualifying one night in 2010.
“It is a big event and Charlotte is always a track I’ve enjoyed going to,” he said. “It’s a pretty unique race track. Typically there are a couple of different grooves you can race at. If it’s prepared right it puts on a pretty good show.”
Dollansky and the Eyecon Trail Cameras team enter the weekend with a 42-point advantage over Swindell and his Big Game Treestands team for fifth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings.
