Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Sept. 19, 2016) – Sammy Swindell and A.G. Rains have a partnership that has worked since Day 1.
Swindell recorded a runner-up result last Saturday at I-30 Speedway during the Ralph Henson Memorial, which marked his 13th podium finish of the season. It was also the fifth time Swindell and Rains have teamed up in the last year and each time has resulted in either a win or a second-place finish.
“I had a good night,” Swindell said. “We were doing some of the things A.G. was doing. We were trying some of his things and the track went through a big change where it was really greasy all over and then it got really sticky around the middle. For the main it dried off pretty well, but had a big curb around the top. It gave us a nice tune-up for the Short Track Nationals and a really good direction.”
Swindell opened the night by using a late-race pass to advance from third to second place in a heat race.
“The race track was one lane near the middle,” he said. “It was pretty narrow. It was a bit greasy down there where we started. I was faster than the guy in front of me, but it took a long time to get by him. He made a mistake the last corner and got over the cushion. It gave me a chance to get to him and we drag raced and I beat him by about a foot. We made the most out of what we had and we were a point or so out of being in the redraw.”
Swindell ranked seventh in overall points, which missed a spot in the feature redraw by only one position. He lined up on the inside of the fourth row for the 30-lap main event.
“The car was good,” he said. “I was able to work around the bottom or through the middle when most the guys were running the top. I got to second and we raced there pretty hard for quite a while. We had a pretty good race with Derek Hagar and it was pretty tight. There was once I got about a half a car ahead, but he came back around me. We were right there the whole time. At the end he got a break or two in traffic and got a little distance on me.”
Swindell scored a second-place result to continue his momentum driving for Rains. The duo will venture to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., this Thursday through Saturday for the Hockett/McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
