Swindell Battles to Overcome Misfortune at Sprint Car World Championship

Inside Line Promotions – MANSFIELD, Ohio (April 30, 2018) – Sammy Swindell fought hard to overcome an untimely mechanical problem last weekend during the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway.
Swindell and car owner A.G. Rains kicked off the inaugural event on Friday by qualifying 13th quickest out of more than 70 competitors. That lined the team up on the inside of the second row for a heat race.
Unfortunately, Swindell ran into bad luck as a mechanical problem sent the team to the pits midway through the race while running third. It also ended the night early for the team.
The event concluded on Saturday and since Swindell wasn’t able to run a consolation race the previous night he lined up at the back of his heat race. Swindell maneuvered from 10th to sixth place, which relegated him to a B Main. He again rallied to gain four positions, but the fourth-place finish was two spots shy of transferring into the A Main.
“The track was pretty narrow and hard to pass people,” he said. “It’s so fast there and the turns are tight. When you’re behind someone you lose all your downforce. In the B Main we broke the front nose wing and it fell down so that pretty much took us out of contention.
“Once we broke in the heat race on Friday we were buried. We tried to make a run at it, but the way the track was and the short number of laps in the heat and B Main on Saturday it didn’t work out.”
Swindell said he is unsure whether he will race this weekend.
