Sammy Swindell Open for Knoxville Nationals Opportunity

Inside Line Promotions – GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (July 18, 2018) – Sammy Swindell is seeking an opportunity to hunt for his record-tying 35th career A Main start during the famed Knoxville Nationals next month.

Swindell has spent the last couple of seasons on a part-time schedule driving in both 410ci and 360ci sprint car competition for A.G. Rains. However, the 410 engine the team has is damaged and won’t be repaired in time for the $150,000-to-win event at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, Aug. 8-11.

“Everything is in good shape with our 360 program so we’ll be able to race the 360 Knoxville Nationals, but I don’t have anything lined up for the 410 Knoxville Nationals,” Swindell said. “I’m open to any opportunity with a team that can be a contender or that is willing to loan us an engine.”

Swindell has made 34 A Main starts – only one behind Steve Kinser for the most all time – during the prestigious event, including winning it in 1983. He has also earned eight podiums, 14 top fives and 20 top 10s since his first Knoxville Nationals A Main in 1976.

Swindell also ranks sixth in career laps led – 89 – and he’s one of only six drivers to earn the pole position at least three times.

“I think Knoxville is a track where experience is valuable,” he said. “It can be very technical and not many drivers can show up and be competitive for the win their first few times there. We’ve had quite a bit of success there and hopefully we can find the right opportunity to contend for another win.”

Swindell has 50 career 410ci winged sprint car wins at Knoxville Raceway, which ranks fifth all time.
