Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 9, 2018) – Sammy Swindell is tackling a tripleheader this weekend with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
Swindell and Thone Motorsports will compete on Friday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill.; on Saturday at Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, Ind., during the Wabash Clash; and on Sunday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the Last Call for Them All.
Friday will mark Swindell’s debut at Jacksonville Speedway.
“We’ve struggled a little getting the car balanced through the whole night, but it’s still been fast,” he said. “We haven’t really hit on the perfect setup, but we’ve been close a few times. Hopefully this week we can improve on that. We’ve made slight adjustments. I think the car keeps getting better. I’m always one to look for a little more to make it better.
“You get there (to each new track) and compare it to someplace you’ve been and then go from there. I don’t have any experience on how the track would change or does it get better or worse so I have to pay attention to what’s going on; watch the races and make our best guess on what we need to do for the race.”
It has been approximately 15 years since he’s raced with the World of Outlaws at Terre Haute Action Track. He won a World of Outlaws show at the big oval in 1997.
“I’ve got quite a few laps there,” he said. “We’ve done some tire tests there where we ran a lot of laps. They don’t run that track a lot so you get different people working on it. I’ve been there when it’s smooth with a nice curb and I’ve been there when it’s been dry and I’ve been there when it’s really rough. We’ll just wait to see which track we get.”
Swindell will cap the weekend at Eldora Speedway, where he ranks second with 21 career Outlaws victories.
The tripleheader will hopefully go smoother than the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals last weekend at I-30 Speedway, which hosted the ASCS Mid-South Region event. Swindell’s night began with a heat race incident that resulted in a DNF before ending in a DNF during feature action on both Friday and Saturday.
He and car owner A.G. Rains will wrap up their season together Oct. 19-20 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the 45th annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.
