Inside Line Promotions – SPENCER, Iowa (Sept. 18, 2017) – Big Game Motorsports picked up its 30th top-five finish of the season during its 50th race last weekend.
Kerry Madsen guided the Muddy sponsored team to a runner-up result on Friday with the IRA Sprint Car Series at Clay County Fair Speedway.
“We wanted to win, but you still have to be happy you had a good run, a top-three finish,” he said.
The night began with Madsen setting quick time during qualifying for the 20th time this season and fourth race in a row. He then advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. Madsen pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.
“The track took rubber about Lap 3 or Lap 4,” he said. “I was up to second and I got close to making a pass for the lead, but every three or four laps a yellow could come out. We didn’t get a chance to get in traffic. On the restarts I just couldn’t get a good restart to pressure him. It’d take me a couple of laps to get on his tail and then a caution would come out.”
Madsen spent nearly the entire race in second place, which marked his 12th runner-up result this year. It was also the Muddy backed team’s eighth consecutive top-five finish.
Saturday’s event at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., rained out.
Madsen and Big Game Motorsports are slated to compete this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., for the Dirt Classic.
“I think we’ll be good,” he said. “I get around those places pretty good so I’m excited to head out there.”
Madsen placed fifth earlier this month during both races in Central Pennsylvania.
