Minnesota Missile Monday: Sparks Top 10 At Jefferson County
By: Stephanie Sparks

After a late night at work on Friday forcing the team to miss racing action on Friday, the team headed to Jefferson County Speedway by Fairbury, NE for racing with the Jay Husker Racing series on Saturday. With Sweet Springs having the week off, a few extra cars made the tow over for a total of 14 cars registered for competition in the restrictor class.

Heat:
KC Sparks lined up on the outside of row two behind Landon Gasseling. A bad start for Sparks forced him to chase down the top three instead of battle for position. Ollie Geiger held off Cale Lagroon for the win. Gasseling finished third with Sparks in fourth. Kyler Bearce, Brody Hibdon, and Keegan Gasseling finished the heat one field.

The second heat race was won by Gavyn Bolt from the pole with Micah Becker, Tityn Roberts, Remmi Butolph and Peyton White in the top five.

Feature:
Sparks lined up on the inside of row four for the feature while Becker and Bolt set the pace on the front row. Sparks struggled with corner speed while keeping the car down in the low racing line and fell back in the field to 11th before a caution came out halfway through the 20-lap event.

On the restart, Sparks saw the leaders take off while the drivers in the positions just ahead of him weren’t on the gas so he dove to the inside and picked off two positions and advanced up to sixth place in the running order. On lap 15, Roberts worked his way around Sparks and took the position.

Out front, Becker was leading the field and claimed the win. Lagroon moved up into second while White advanced seven positions to finish on the podium. Landon Gasseling held off the hard charger, Waylon Phillips who moved up nine positions rounding out the top five. Roberts finished sixth, Sparks crossed the line seventh with Butolph, Geiger, and Bolt the top ten.

Sparks was credited with ninth after being penalized two positions for passing early on the restart. Overall, the team had a good night of racing and were proud of KC’s aggressive driving on the restart fighting to keep his positions.
