OAKLAND — Mitch Thomas of Oakland earned the American Motor Racing Association 2018 Rookie of the Year honors just two days after turning 13 years old.

Racing in the AMRA Modified Division against many older and more seasoned drivers, Mitch regularly showcased his natural racing ability and his commitment to training throughout the 2018 racing season.

The young athlete finished fourth overall in the final point tally for the season and took an overall third-place finish in overall points for the 2018 Elkins, West Virginia, Raceway season.

Mitch has been racing competitively since 2015, starting in the Mini Wedge Division, proving to be almost immediately competitive in car racing. He was presented the 2017 Elkins Raceway Rookie of the Year award at the age of 11 years old. Mitch is an honor roll student at Southern Middle School and has been recognized as a Student of the Month for outstanding work in Science. A member of the Loch Lynn Church of God, Mitch volunteers to remove snow around the property throughout the winter season.
