Bacon Speeds through Eastern Storm – Picks up Another Win along the Way

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (June 21, 2018) – Brady Bacon continues to gain momentum aboard the Brady Bacon Racing No. 99 Sprint Car. And that was quite apparent with a strong run over each of the six nights of the USAC Amsoil National Sprint Car Eastern Storm that wrapped up on Tuesday night.

Bacon opened the six-race set with a win at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA, and finished out the week fifth in Eastern Storm points with three top-fives and five top-tens along the way.

“I feel like we’re back on track now, we’re fast every night,” Bacon comments. “We have a pretty decent package to go with, we’re really close now.”

This year’s Eastern Storm started just the way last year’s did with Bacon standing in victory lane at Grandview Speedway on Thursday night, June 14. It was Bacon’s fourth overall win of the year and second on the USAC Sprint Car trail.

“We had a good starting spot on the front row and got by Chad Boespflug early for the lead,” Bacon recalls. “KT (Kevin Thomas, Jr.) got by with six or seven to go, so I moved around and found a little grip to get back by him. It’s a little more gratifying to win one that way and to beat a guy that’s at the top of his game right now. It gave us a lot of confidence for the rest of the week.”

The Eastern Storm moved on to the storied Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night with Bacon again in the lead mix in the late going before settling for runner-up honors at the stripe. After starting fourth in the feature, Bacon raced into the lead on the 20th lap only to surrender the point a handful of laps later.

“We got to second pretty quick, then I was able to set up Ballou and get by him for the lead,” Bacon says. “It slicked off a little more than we thought though, I didn’t tighten up enough and couldn’t quite stick the bottom and that let Windom get by.”

Action shifted to Port Royal Speedway on Saturday night where Bacon led the opening 17 laps before a broken left rear torsion arm forced him to a stop. Bacon returned after the caution to salvage a 12th-place finish on the night.
Sunday night found Bacon and the USAC forces at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, PA, where “The Macho Man” worked his way to an eighth place finish after timing in tenth-quick.

“It was one of those nights that you just try to get through it unscathed,” Bacon comments. “It was dusty and dirty slick, not really our kind of track.”

Action shifted to New Jersey’s newly reconfigured Bridgeport Speedway on Monday night with Bacon rallying from 13th to post a fourth-place finish.

“It was a new track so it had a few bumps, I hit those on both qualifying laps and that cost us a little time,” Bacon says. “In the feature, it was about half the race before it widened out and we could start passing. We were good though, we were able to work our way forward.”

The Eastern Storm wrapped up on Tuesday night at New York’s Weedsport Speedway with Bacon earning a sixth-place finish after battling among the top three in the early going.

“The track was pretty nice for the feature, it had a good cushion in three and four,” Bacon says. “We got to third and a yellow came out, then our tire sealed up bad. We just couldn’t get fired off after that and just held on for sixth.”

Overall, Eastern Storm was an undeniable success for Bacon and company.
“The fans up there are amazing and we got to race at six great tracks, we look forward to doing that again,” Bacon wraps up.

Weather permitting, this weekend’s action calls for Bacon to put the wing atop for Friday night’s All Star Circuit of Champions “Ohio Sprint Speedweek” card at Limaland Motorsports Park before jumping into the Hoffman No. 69ot for Saturday’s non-wing card at Ohio’s Waynesfield Raceway Park.
