Bacon Notches Three Top Fives during Mid-America Midget Week

Lonnie Wheatley, WINCHESTER, Ind. (July 19, 2018) – Brady Bacon was in the mix throughout last week’s USAC Mid-America Midget Week aboard the FMR No. 76m entry, posting three top-five finishes during the four race set with a fifth round falling to rain.

With the week of Midget action in the books, action turns back to the USAC National Sprint Cars with Indiana Sprintweek firing off Friday night at Plymouth Speedway.

Along with last week’s Midget action, Bacon also jumped into a Micro Sprint during Sunday’s finale at Missouri’s Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex and came away with the $2,500 winner’s share as he upped his 2018 win total to six.

Last week’s action started at Meeker, Oklahoma’s Red Dirt Raceway on Tuesday night, July 10, with Bacon timing in sixth and then posting a fifth-place feature finish to round out the night in front of his home state crowd.

“We had a good start up front,” Bacon said of the Meeker outing. “It was fast around the top for a while, I just moved down a little too late.”

Moving on to Beloit, Kansas’ Solomon Valley Raceway on Wednesday night, Bacon mustered a 12th-place feature finish after timing in 11th to start the night.

“We had a bad qualifying lap,” Bacon comments. “It was pretty rough though. We’d pass a couple cars and then bike it and they’d get us back and we’d have to do it again.”

Following an off night, Fairbury, Nebraska’s Midwest Midget Championship at Jefferson County Speedway was reduced to a single night affair on Saturday after the Friday portion fell victim to rain. After clocking in tenth, Bacon won his heat and then climbed from tenth to a fifth-place finish in the feature to earn Hard Charger efforts.

“I was a little too tight in qualifying, so we had to start tenth,” Bacon recalls. “It was up top most of the race, so everyone was fast. The bottom came in the last ten laps or so, that made for a little more passing towards the end.”

The week wrapped up in Missouri on a sweltering Sunday night at the Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex where Bacon earned his best Midget finish of the week with a fourth-place run after timing in fifth quickest.

“We were good, we almost got to the lead and then the tire got hot and blistered,” Bacon relates. “If we could have got to the lead, I think we could have held them off.”

Bacon then finished off the week by pocketing an extra $2,500 with a Micro Sprint score.
