Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 16, 2017) – Seth Bergman recorded his career-best Short Track Nationals result last weekend during the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires at I-30 Speedway.
Bergman kicked off the ASCS Mid-South Region tripleheader on Thursday by maneuvering from seventh to fourth place during a heat race.
“I wasn’t happy with the heat race,” he said. “I knew we needed to be better. We made some adjustments for the qualifier and things got better. I felt like we were making progress. In the main event we were about a ninth-place car.”
Bergman won the qualifier to lock into the ninth starting position for the A Main. He battled inside the top 10 throughout the 25-lap main event before finishing ninth.
He returned to the bullring on Friday for the second round of action. Bergman won a heat race before he finished eighth in a qualifier after an early incident.
“We started off well,” he said. “I got a good draw and was able to win the heat race. In the qualifier I got spun out on the first lap. We had to go to the back and I wasn’t able to work my way forward. Then we weren’t good in the B Main. We had to make up a lot of ground and I wasn’t good enough.”
Bergman capped the night with a 10th-place result in a B Main.
He entered Saturday’s finale needing a strong performance in a heat race to make the $15,000-to-win A Main.
“I knew with where we were at that I had to win that showdown race,” he said. “We drew the pole and I had no choice but to win, which we did. That locked us into 13th place in the feature. We weren’t that good again. There were a lot of cars that fell out and we survived. That’s how our weekend was. When it was crucial to score points we could score points, but when it came time to capitalize we weren’t able to do it.”
The heat race win locked Bergman into the 13th starting position in the 40-lap main event. He picked up a position to finish 12th, which was his career-best finish during the finale of the event that showcased more than 70 competitors.
“We had an ok weekend,” he said. “I wouldn’t say it was great and I wouldn’t say it was horrible. We were a mid-pack car come feature-time all weekend. We’ve been trying to figure out how to get out of that mid-pack speed for a while. It’s something we continue to work on.”
Bergman will return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 44th annual Winter Nationals. He enters the weekend ranked sixth in the championship standings.
