PETERSEN MEDIA- After being sidelined due to illness a week ago, Tommy Tarlton returned to action at the Ocean Speedway on Friday night, and charged from his eighth starting spot, to pick up a fourth place finish aboard his Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino backed entry.
“It was a funky surface, but Paul Baines gave me a strong car, and we were able to work our way forward,” Tarlton said.
With 20 cars checked in for action on Friday night, Tarlton would get his night started off by timing the Executive Auto/Pabco Gypsum/WCO Apparel backed entry in fifth fastest.
Lining up third in his heat, ‘The Night Rider’ would finish in the third spot, and earn a spot in the evening’s redraw, as he would find himself with the vaunted eight pill, and in the fourth row for the 30-lap feature event.
From his eighth starting position, Tarlton would go to work on his competition, as he slowly worked his way forward. On a surface where lapped traffic would have helped slow the race’s pace, the caution seemed to fly whenever traffic would come into play.
Getting around Brad Furr, Kyler Shaw, and Nick Ringo in the closing stages of the race, the Easton, CA driver would cross the finish line with a fourth place finish.
“I think lapped traffic would have helped us track down the leaders,” Tarlton said. “The cautions did not fall when we needed them to, but still a great night for this team and all of our partners.”
