Herald & Review 100 gives Trey Mills first-career Hell Tour triumph in thrilling fashion
Florida Racer Collects $7,500 Payday in Herald & Review 100
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (06/30/25) – “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” That was the motto Trey Mills embodied Thursday night at Illinois’ Macon Speedway.
The Florida teenager turned heads by outdueling five-time World of Outlaws champion Brandon Sheppard to capture the prestigious Herald & Review 100. Piloting his Catto Motorsports / Mills Concrete / Twin’s Farm No. 14JR Longhorn Chassis Late Model, Mills earned a $7,500 payday for his first career DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory at the tight 1/5-mile oval.
“It’s just super awesome,” Mills said. “I’ve had a great car this whole time, I was just making too many mistakes. Tonight, I just got a whole night together, qualified on pole, won the Heat race, started up front, and maintained the first half of the race, and then finally gave it all I had at the end.”
After spending the opening two weeks on tour, Mills returned for Week Three of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, beginning with a 19th-place finish in Tuesday’s event at Springfield Raceway. Persistent rain washed out Wednesday’s stop at Tri-City Speedway, shifting the team’s focus to Thursday’s marquee event at Macon.
Mills made an early statement by setting the overall fastest time in qualifying with a blistering 11.401-second lap. He then held off a hard-charging Kyle Bronson in his heat to pick up the win. Rolling off third in the 100-lap feature, Mills seized the lead on lap 46 and held off repeated challenges from Brandon Sheppard in the closing circuits. He crossed the finish line just 0.118 seconds ahead to secure the career-high payday.
Following Thursday’s triumph, Mills endured an early exit Friday at Farmer City Raceway before rebounding with an 11th-place finish in Saturday’s $10,000-to-win A-Main at Highland Speedway. He closed out the week with a solid seventh-place effort on Sunday evening at Clarksville Speedway in Tennessee—the final DIRTcar Summer Nationals event to be held at the track.
Mills finished sixth in the Week Three point standings.
