Scotty Thiel
Memorial Day Weekend Recap
The #64 Scott Thiel Motorsports Sprint Car unloaded out of the trailer at the Manitowoc County Speedway Friday night, May 27th. Scotty drew a 14 pill which set him to start the heat race inside the second row. At the drop of the green flag, Thiel quickly moved into the 2nd position and stayed their for the remaining 10 laps. That finish would set Thiel on the outside front row for the night's 30 Lap A-Main event. At the drop of the green flag, Scotty worked the high line and grabbed the lead and began to check out. A red flag stopped racing action on lap 16 and bunched the field back up. Scotty led the field back to green flag action and again checked back out. Shortly after, a yellow came out and bunched the field back up again. Thiel did the same as before on the restart and this time there was only 10 laps to go. Within 4 laps, Scotty caught lap traffic and lost the lead while trying to work the bottom groove. Thiel tried to give the top side a chance, but the car didnt work too good and fell back a few more spots. The checkered flag was flying and Scotty crossed the line in the 4th position. "Car was real good on the bottom, just didn't work to good up top when the 35 went around. Needed a 25 lapper tonight!" Thiel stated after the race. The crew was slightly dissapointed that the results ended that way but were still happy to come out with a solid Top 5 Finish.
Saturday Night, May 28th brought racing action at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, WI. Scotty drew a 35 pill and started in the 6th spot in the heat race event. With a super tacky race track, passing was very limited and Thiel finished in the 6th position, forcing him to come through the B-Main. Scotty started again in the 6th position in the 15 lap B-Main event. At the green, Thiel worked the high side and jumped in the 5th position and maintained it all race long, giving him a 21st starting spot for the 25 lap A-Main. The crew worked hard preparing the car for the dry slick race track. At the green, Thiel started to pick off car after car, working both the high side and low side of the track. A yellow came out on lap 19 and Scotty found himself in the 15th position. When racing action returned, Scotty charged hard and again picked off several more cars and finished out the 25 lap event in the 9th position, along with the Hard Charger for passing 12 cars!
The crew was pretty excited about the finish after working hard to come through the B. Overall it was a very good weekend for the Scott Thiel Motorsports team. A top 5 and a top 10 finish. STM would like to thank all of their great partners:
