Top 3 Weekend for Scotty Thiel

Scotty Thiel drove the #64 Complete Water STM Sprint car to two solid top 3 finishes this past weekend at the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway and at the Wilmot Raceeway.

Friday June 24th, The Scott Thiel Motorsports crew pulled into the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway. Scotty drew a #12 pill which set him to start outside the front row for the heat race event. At the drop of the green, Thiel jumped into the lead and never looked back. Scotty checked out and took the checkered flag. That finish would set him to start 10th in the 30 Lap A-Main event. At the start of the A-main it was a wild one going into turns 1 and 2 as several cars got together, causing a big mess on the race track. During that process, Scotty was hit in the left rear tire and could feel that something wasnt completely right but the car still felt okay to drive. After returning to green flag action, the car was a little bit of a handful for Thiel but he jumped up to the top side of the track and made the car work. Scotty was battling for the 5th position and after a few laps charged ahead for the 3rd position. A yellow flag came out with only 2 laps to go. On the restart, Scotty knew he had a good opportunity to grab the lead. After returning to green flag action, the top 3 cars made it three wide going into turn one. Thiel tried to cross over the car but with something broke it was a handful to do so and held on to third position. A tight battle occured as Scotty tried to complete a slide job on the white flag lap but the second place car just pulled Thiel at the line. After going across the scales, the crew quickly came over and realized that the Left Rear shock had broken off the car on the first lap incident. The guys were in shock that Scotty held on to the car and drove it the way it was.

Saturday June 25th brought the #64 STM Sprint car to the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin. Scotty drew a 3 pill which set him to start on the pole of the 10 lap heat race event. Again, Thiel took the early lead and never looked back, capturing the heat race victory and again a 10th place starting position for the 25 lap A-Main event. The crew set the car up for the very dry slick race track. Scotty knew that it was going to be tough to move forward and had to be careful with every move. The green flag flew and Thiel was searching around for the right line. It took a few laps but then Scotty jumped down to the bottom side of the track and slowly picked off a car one by one. With only a few laps to go, Scotty found himself sitting in the 4th position on a restart. After taking the green again, Thiel kept working the bottom side and within a few laps was in 2nd, chasing down the leader. Scotty was on a mission and closed the gap within one car length. With a lap and a half to go, Scotty dove down into turn 3 under the leader but coming out of turn 4 the room ran out and Scotty hit the inside tire barrier with the the Left Front of the car, but still managed to hold on to 2nd. The checkered flag flew and Thiel pulled off a solid top 3 finish coming home in the 2nd position. "We had a car capable of winning tonight, just ran out of room coming out of 4 there with one to go... it sucks, but its racing, we'll get em' next time." Thiel explained after the race.

Overall, it was a great weekend for the #64 Complete Water Inc STM Sprint Car Team. Finishing in the top 3 both nights with a car that was slighly banged up is nothing to be ashamed about. STM would like to thank again, all of their great marketing partners of 2011:
