Scotty Thiel - Rough Night at Plymouth Dirt Track

Friday night's racing plans were cancelled due to heavy rain. The STM crew then prepared for Saturday night's racing action at the Plymouth Dirt Track. Scotty picked a 46 pill which set him to start 8th in the heat race event. With only a lap in, a car spun towards the front of the field and collected several cars including Thiel. Scotty would get the hook back to the pits and the crew would have to hustle in order to make the B-Main event.

Lucky, the track needed prep work, so it gave the team a few extra minutes to replace the entire front half of the car. The right sided torsion tube was bent back but they made it work for the remaining portion of the night.

The car was prepared and ready for the B-Main event. Scotty started in the 11th position and knew he would have to charge very hard in only a few laps to make it in the top six and transfer into the A-Main. The field took the green and Thiel charged into turn one. He would make a pass going into one and began to pick off car after car every lap. A caution came out at with only a few laps to go and Scotty found himself in the fourth position. On the restart, he held his ground and rode out that position and took the checkered flag. That would allow him to start in the 20th position for the night's 25 lap A-main event.

It was driver introduction night for the sprint car guys. The field got strapped in and got pushed out on the track. They took the green and Scotty began to charge. He was up to the 15th position with only a few laps in but would pull a wheelie going down the backstretch and slam the front end down very hard. The field went back around him and he felt the car out to make sure everything was okay. At that point the field had an entire straight on Thiel. He charge back at it again and did not get any cautions to help the cause. The race went green to checkered and Scotty managed to make his way back up to the 15th position. "We had to work for everything tonight after that heat race. That put us behind the eight ball all night. The track was extremely rough in that A-main. Everyone was equally fast and there wasn't much more I could do." Scotty stated after the night.

The crew stripped the car down on Sunday and made the decision on Monday morning that it needed to get a new front clip. The torsion tube caused several other things to bend on the frame. The crew pulled the msa motor out and put it in their ascs car for this weeks racing action. They will be off to the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway on Wednesday night and the Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday night.
