Scotty Thiel - Hard Charger at Manitowoc

The first day of August brought the #64 Professional Plating Sprint Car to the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway. Scotty drew a 12 pill which set him to start on the outside front row of the heat race event. When the field took the green, Thiel charged into turn one but encountered issues as a power steering line blew. Scotty was forced to retire from the race and start at the rear of the 30 lap A-main event.

The crew hustled to get the line fixed and pushed the car off to make sure everything was correct. After evaluating everything, they said it was good to go.

Scotty started in the 20th position for the A-main. The track stayed pretty heavy all night and Thiel knew it was going to be a difficult time to move forward. The field went on to take the green flag and he began to move forward. After four laps were complete, Scotty ran out of tear offs and was forced to wipe the mud off his shield for the remaining 26 laps. That didn't phase him one bit and at the first red flag on lap eight, he found himself sitting in the ninth position. The race went back to green and Scotty continued to charge ahead. The race went green for another 15 laps before a red came back out. At that point he was sitting in the sixth position. The field was lined back up and took the green once again. With only a few laps remaining, Scotty drove past a few more cars. A caution came out quickly after going green and he had slid up to the fifth spot. Five laps were left for the A-main and Scotty battled for the third spot after going back green. He took over fifth with three laps left and charged forward. Scotty was unable to gain any more ground on the top two cars but would come home in a respectable third place finish. "Man, this car was on rails tonight. Jeff (Robinson) put an awesome set up in it. I could drive where ever I wanted to. We needed one more caution at the end to bunch us back up and I think we could have had a shot at the lead. Can't complain though with moving up 17 spots!" Thiel expressed after the event.

Mother Nature took the win for Saturday's event at the Plymouth Dirt Track.

Overall, it was a pretty successful night at the Manitowoc Speedway. The team had to overcome some difficulties early on but coming from 20th to 3rd made up for that. The STM crew will be back in action this Friday and Saturday again at the Manitowoc County Expo Speedway and the Plymouth Dirt Track.
