Scotty Thiel – Unfortunate Mishap ends a strong performance
Mother Nature won the first night of IRA racing action this past Labor Day Weekend. The rain came through on Saturday forcing the cancellation of the Plymouth Dirt Track event. However, Sunday brought great weather and it was time for racing at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI. Scotty drew a late spot for qualifying but would make it up by winning the heat race and obtaining a great starting spot for the A-main event. A strong performance was ended in a mid-race crash as Thiel was collected in the mishap.
32 cars were signed into 141 Speedway on Sunday night. Scotty was the 30th car out to qualify and as the track dried out it made it tougher to obtain a quick time around the 1/3 mile track. Thiel put down an 11.890 lap time that was 10th quick on the night. That would place Thiel to start on the outside front row of the 10 lap heat race event. He took advantage of the great starting spot and would take the early lead. Never looking back, Thiel would go on to capture the heat race win and lock himself into the redraw for the A-main event. Scotty drew the 4 pill which would place him to start in the 4th position. The field took the green for the 30 lap main event and Thiel quickly jumped into the second position after the first lap was completed. Keeping a close distance on the leader, Thiel was abiding his time as they quickly approached lap traffic. Several cautions occurred in the first half of the race and as the leaders crossed the line with the official half way marker, that’s when the strong run would come to an end for Thiel. A car spun in turn three and Thiel hit the wall trying to avoid the wreck and got collected with several cars. The crew went to work in the pits and was able to get Scotty back out on the track in time but with a pretty bent up car he wasn’t able to gain much ground. He would end up finishing in the 16th position. “I’m pretty bummed out after tonight. We had such a good car tonight here. I knew we were going to have a good run and have a solid chance at the win. Traffic was tough but I kept the leader close during the first part of the race. Track was basically all around the top and when that car spun there was no way of avoiding it with the speed I had entering the corner. Disappointed that we couldn’t finish well for these guys and all of our partners but we will regroup and charge for next weekend.” Stated Scotty after the event.
Next on tap is a double header weekend for the #64 STM team. They will travel north to the Amsoil Speedway in Superior, WI on Friday night and follow that up with the Richert Memorial event at Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday night.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries.
