Scotty Thiel – Records First Career World of Outlaw Top 10 at Music City Nationals!

The Scott Thiel Motorsports team headed south to Nashville, TN this past weekend to race at the Inaugural Music City Outlaw Nationals with the World of Outlaw NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series on Friday and Saturday night. Both nights were record setting for the team as they checked off goals set with running with the best drivers in the world. Scotty would make his first dash appearance on Friday night after winning his first Outlaw heat race and record his first top ten finish by placing eighth in the feature event! He backed that up on Saturday with a second place run in the heat race, making another dash appearance but would not have great results in the main as the car shut off before green flag action took place.

Friday night’s action saw 40 cars signed into the pit area for the first night of action of the Music City Outlaw Nationals. Scotty would be the sixth car out to qualify in flight number two. He would go quick time briefly before getting shut out by Donny Schatz and end up with a second place qualifying effort on the night. That placed him to start on the pole of the fourth heat race event. Top two finishers in the heat race would transfer on to the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash. Thiel would claim the lead right away in the heat and never look back. He would take the checkered flag home on the ten lap heat race which would be his first ever World of Outlaw heat race win. During the dash draw, Scotty would go on to pull the number eight pill which placed him to start eighth in the main event as they rushed the program ahead and didn’t actually run the Dash event. The field was set and took the green flag for the 30 lap A-main event. The track was mainly single file around the bottom and Scotty was able to fall into line in the eighth position right away. There wasn’t much passing that took place but Thiel was able to hold his running position all race long and would capture his first top ten finish with the outlaws with a solid eighth place performance! “Man, this feels really good. We were able to get a good qualifying run tonight and that just set us up well for the rest of the night. Won the heat and that put us into the dash. A top ten finish with the World of Outlaws is incredible for our little team we have. It feels great to be able to compete well with this caliber of drivers.” Thiel explained after the event.

Saturday night was round two of the Music City Nationals that would pay $25,000 dollars to the A-main winner. Scotty was the 10th car out on the night to qualify and would put down the seventh quickest lap of the field. That would place him to start on the outside front row of heat three. The green would fly for that heat race event and Scotty quickly jumped in line in the second position. He battled with the leader, Tony Stewart, all race long but would not be able to capitalize and finish in the second position. That run was still good enough to put Thiel into the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash however! Scotty would draw the seventh starting position for the dash event. He would battle for the sixth position early on in the event but lost some ground as he went to the stop side of the track and would end up finishing in the eighth position. That would then be his starting spot for the night’s 30 lap A-main event. The field was pushed off and got the signal to night up and that’s when trouble would haunt Thiel as his car came to a stop. He went to the work area where the crew would change out the ignition box but that still would not bring Thiel’s car back to life and he would be force to retire out of the race. He would be officially scored 24th on the night. “It was a bummer what happened out there before the start of the main as I was really looking forward to having another great starting spot for the feature. I thought we were a little better than Friday night but stuff happens. I’m still super proud of my team for how well we did this weekend. It speaks volumes to everyone involved and I look forward to running with the outlaws soon!” Thiel mentioned.

Next on tap for the #64 STM team is this coming weekend starting off Saturday night at the Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, WI and Sunday at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI. Both of these events are with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series.

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
