Thiel perfect in IRA start at Beaver Dam Raceway; Lake Ozark ahead
By Fully Injected Motorsports:
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (April 25, 2022) - The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 were all but perfect on Saturday night at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, ending the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series season opener with not only a $3,000 check, but a heat race and dash victory to boot. In fact, the only portion of the program that Thiel was not the best in was qualifying time trials. The Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native clocked-in with the second-fastest time in the order, falling just short of Blake Nimee.
The IRA triumph is Thiel’s first victory of the 2022 season, leading every lap of the 30 lap contest from the outside pole position. Feature polesitter and Beaver Dam native, Jeremy Schultz, did his best to pressure Thiel near the conclusion of the main event, but Thiel’s combination of momentum and speed was too strong to overcome.
The decision to battle the IRA was ultimately last minute, as the team was scheduled to join the World of Outlaws for an Illinois and Indiana double on Friday and Saturday, April 22-23. The last minute destination change proved beneficial.
“It feels great to get a win. We’ve been racing with the World of Outlaws quite a bit over the last few weeks. Despite some tough results, you can learn a lot by racing with that level of competition and I think that ultimately made us better,” Scotty Thiel explained, driver of the Gibbsville Cheese, Walkers Game Ear, Professional Plating Inc, Scott Thiel Builders, Stealth Cam, Muddy Outdoors, Complete Water Inc, KSI Supply, No. 73 sprint car. “Hats off to this entire crew. We’ve been all over the map so far this season, but their hard work and determination to win never quit. We have so many great partners on board with us this season and we owe all of our successes to them.”
ON DECK:
The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will continue their 2022 campaign with a return visit to the Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri, on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30. The Frost Breaker Nationals is on the weekend agenda featuring the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League.
