Pair of Top-5s for Covington at Belleville
Matt Covington Racing – Glenpool, OK (July 9, 2025)
Matt Covington capped off the July 4th weekend with a pair of strong top-five finishes, scoring 4th and 5th aboard his Triple X/Outlaw Wings machine with the ASCS National Tour at Belleville.
Covington kicked off Friday night with a 2nd-place effort in group qualifying, which earned him the pole position for his heat race. He led flag-to-flag to claim the heat win. A pill draw of six set him on the third row for the dash, where he finished 4th, lining him up on the outside of row two for the feature.
In the A-Main, Matt battled within the top three throughout the race but ultimately crossed the line in 4th.
“We would’ve liked to land on the podium Friday, but the car was just a little aero tight and light on the front end to get the drive I needed off the corners,” Matt said. “I don’t think we had anything for the leaders, but it was good to have a clean race and another solid top-five.”
Saturday saw the Keizer Wheels/Missile Motorsports No. 95 start 4th in the heat after topping his qualifying group. Matt quickly moved into second to lock into another dash. Unfortunately, another six in the pill draw placed him on the third row once again. He finished 5th in the dash, setting him up to start 5th in the A-Main.
During the feature, Covington ran solidly inside the top five for most of the race, but wasn’t able to make a charge forward and ultimately settled for a 5th-place finish aboard his Reece Construction/Fisher Racing Engines mount.
“We made some improvements and were better early in the night,” said Covington. “We were decent in the feature, but I started searching for something and just couldn’t find the speed I needed to make moves. The car was a little too snug in the center to carry momentum the way Sam and some of those guys could. That really hurt us when it came to contending, but we’ve got some notes and ideas to try if we get back there in the future.”
