A very packed pit area and a full crowd was on hand for Cottage Grove Speedway's Fan Appreciation Night presented by Huddle Automotive Repair on Saturday May 2nd. There was great racing to watch all night long and a few new faces in Huddle Automotive Repair victory lane by night's end. Classes competing were the 360 Sprints, Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and the Quality RV Repair Hornets.

Roger Crockett of Medford would return to the Cottage Grove for the first time since late 2014. The pilot of the Rocket Designs/Auto Stitch Embroidery/BC Motorsports/Parker Racing Engines #11 KPC would take the lead on lap fifteen from Seth Nunes, also from Medford. Nunes, who got the top spot on lap four, spun his Napa Auto Parts/Lucas Oil Products/Rodgers Racing Engines #5N KPC in turn two while battling Crockett.

Crockett would continue to lead the race but when lapped traffic started to come into the picture he started to receive some pressure. Salem's Kyle Miller, in the Tim Galloway owned Myer's Logging/Automotive Sheetmetal/Trifer Glass & Tinting #51 XXX, would get underneath Crockett for the lead only for a caution to come out giving the lead back to Roger. Mastering the last few restarts Roger Crockett would maintain the lead and win his first feature of 2015 and celebrated the triumph in Huddle Automotive Repair victory lane after making his first start since early January.

Trey Starks of Puyallup, Washington would finish a respectable second in his Starks Timber Processing/Southstar Equipment Limited/Rutz Racing/MASCO Petroleum #55 J&J while Kyle Miller ended the evening in third. The rest of the top five would be made up of Vern Wheeler, from Central Point, in fourth piloting the Alliance Trucking/Richie Rich & The Tin Pimp Customs/In & Out Gardens/Rodgers Racing Engines #21W JEI while Henry Van Dam, of Enumclaw, Washington, rallied from an early spin to finish fifth in his Kovash Logging/Johansen Excavating/Van Dam Dairy/Big Al Kids And Motorsports Foundation #33V A.R.T.

In Late Model competition Rob Williams would lead the first lap of the feature in the LW Motorsports/Wounded Warrior Project/Hope4Heroes.org/Sproul Timber #16 MasterSbilt. But on lap two Jesse Williamson would make the pass for the position. Williamson, in the Jerry Schram owned Schram Brothers Excavating/Bodies By Steve-O/Century III Stables #16 MasterSbilt, would set a very fast pace and would master lapped traffic. He would lead the rest of the distance to win his second race of the season at CGS but for the first time in a Late Model visiting Huddle Automotive Repair victory lane after winning a race in IMCA Modified competition on April 4th.

The Paul Culp owned Superior Fuel Cells/All Pro Steel/Rapid Delivery Service #42 X-Factor of Cottage Grove's Curtis Towns was second followed by Eric Luckman from Coos Bay, driving the Quadel Industries/LNL Lumber Outlet/Q2I Archery #77 Rocket, in third. Rob Williams would comes across the line in fourth while the My Boy's Slate Fired Pizza/Taylor Restaurant Equipment #18 MasterSbilt of Blaine Taylor, from Pleasant Hill, completed the top five in fifth.

The IMCA Modified main event would start out with several lead changes. In the first three laps there would be three different leaders. Young Ryan Baker of Coquille was first to get the lead on the opening lap in his Cam Cat Tracker/Chappelle Enterprises/Blaylock Inc. #18R Dirt Works. Baker would lose the lead to teenager Briley Pompe of Philomath on lap two. Pompe, driving the Superior Fuel Cells/X-Factor Race Cars/A&A Magnetics #0P X-Factor, would be in a fierce battle with Cottage Grove Braedon Hand on lap three, with Hand eventually passing him.

Hand would try to distance himself from the rest of the field but with lapped traffic coming into play it did allow challengers to try and close in on him. One of those challengers was Jesse Williamson, driving double duty and in his NexGen Race Cars/Furniture Options/Double R Powdercoating #W5 NexGen, but Williamson would run out of laps. Braedon Hand would pick up the feature victory and score his first visit to Huddle Automotive Repair for him and the Todd's Auto Body/D&D Automotive/KNND 1400 AM #5 Shaw by S.D.M.F. team.

Jesse Williamson was a close second while another driver doing double duty, Curtis Towns in the Superior Fuel Cells/Valley Rose Construction/IBEW Local 280 #24 X-Factor, got third. Jacksonville's Mark Wauge would finish his Payroll Specialties Inc./Hoppes Construction/ABC Powdercoating/Schram Brothers Excavating #1M Impressive in fourth and the Springfield Tire Factory/Tan Republic #11 X-Factor, driven by Steven Sturdevant of Springfield, was fifth.

The Street Stocks would feature a rematch from the previous week between Cottage Grove's Evan Britton and Chris Sine from Eugene. Evan Britton would be the early leader in his D&L Truck Parts/Robert Howell Logging/Todd's Auto Body #85 Nova and set a rapid pace. Unfortunately on lap sixteen he would spin in turn two resulting in Chris Sine inheriting the lead. Sine, driving the Murphy Plywood/Pro Auto Racing/Blind Pig Bar & Grill #24 Camaro, would hold on the rest of the way to visit Huddle Automotive Repair victory lane for the second straight week.

Evan Britton rallied to a respectable second place finish while the Fireball Racing #7M Camaro of Cottage Grove's Marena Starr-Ferguson was third. Rogue River native Garrett Dees was fourth, chauffeuring the Greg Lyles Logging/Center Street Car Wash #66 Camaro, followed by the Crooks Racing #00 Nova of Steve Begely of Eugene in fifth.

Last but not least the Quality RV Repair Hornets had an exciting non-stop green to checkered feature. Jim Simmons of Cottage Grove would not waste anytime to get to the front in his Bigg Dogg Recycling/Marvin Smith Auto Repair/Industrial Finishes #41 entry. Lapped traffic would be a factor and Simmons quickly got passed the cars not letting them slow him down. Simmons would stay in the lead the entire race to visit Huddle Automotive Repair victory lane for the first time since 2013.

Josh Corley of Westfir would place his Burnett Builders #7C Nissan 200SX in second while the third position would go to the Jayson Nelson owned Quality RV Repair/AP Media/Froggy's Towing #28 Accura Integra driven by Cottage Grove's Chris Pierce. Marcel Forte, from Junction City, was fourth in his Junction City Muffler Shop/Guaranty Chevrolet/Twisted Bit Arena #23F Nissan Centra and the DT Machine & Fab/Rapid Delivery Service #71 Mitsubishi Mirage, piloted by Springfield native Daniel Ray for car owner Randy Kuhl, was fifth.
