Ensign gets Wingless 3-Peat in Pit Stop USA Sprint Car Series
Geoff Ensign continued his winning ways by capturing his third straight win in the Pit Stop USA Sprint Car Series with another outstanding performance on a very well prepared and racy Petaluma Speedway. Ensign has shown that he can find victory lane with or without a wing on the fast 3/8 mile adobe surface this year.
Zack Lynskey looked to have a great shot at capturing the main event, leading the first 12 laps with Ensign and Pit Stop USA Sprint Car Series point leader Joe Stornetta in pursuit. But lap 13 proved to be unlucky for Lynskey when he took the high groove to lap Bill Hopper entering turn one opening the door for Ensign and Stornetta to power by on the bottom.
Ensign never looked back and led all of the remaining laps with Stornetta and Lynskey battling hard for the second position. Lynsky made a great last lap move to sneak by Stornetta at the finish line to claim the second position by a mere .024 seconds. Sparky Howard in his first ride in the Donny VanLare #5D finished fourth followed by fast qualifier Terry Schank Jr. who battled most of the race with a broken right front shock mount. Dustin Baxter, Klint Simpson, Scott Hall, Bill Cornwell and Trevor Schmid rounded out the top ten.
