Inside Line Promotions – ATTICA, Ohio (July 27, 2017) – While there’s still nearly half a season of racing left in 2017, Kevin Mingus has started to look ahead to 2018 and his future racing plans are somewhat up in the air.

“(Team owners) Kurt and Martha Huber informed me they wanted to scale back and didn’t want to be full-time owners after this year,” Mingus said. “They want to spend more time with family and Kurt has his business to run. Right now some of the equipment belongs to my mom and dad and I’m looking at purchasing the rest from Kurt and Martha. I would just need a tow vehicle and a shop to house the car. It definitely would be a challenge as it would be just me and my fiancée, Marissa, as owners, crew and driver. If that happens I will have to scale back the number of races we compete in as money and time allow. This year we had 43 scheduled and of course lost many to rainouts, but by ourselves we can’t commit to that aggressive of a schedule. I’m also looking for sponsorship help or hoping I can find a ride.”

Mingus and the Huber Motorsports team competed last Friday at Attica Raceway Park, where a large field of 32 305ci sprint cars signed in and a bad pill draw relegated Mingus to the sixth-place starting position in his heat race.

“We started out okay and gained a couple of spots and I just got over aggressive and looped it out, which put us in the B Main,” he said.

Mingus, who ended sixth in his heat, rolled off fourth in one of two B Mains with only the top-two finishers advancing to the A Main.

“It’s been awhile since we raced at Attica because of the rainouts,” he said. “We were able to learn some things at Fremont and Limaland and we tried it at Attica. It was by far the best car I’ve had at Attica in the dry slick. I fell into third and ran the bottom and was just waiting for one of the top two to make a mistake and one did and spun, but I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. It did quite a bit of damage and the drive line broke and bruised up my ankles pretty good. Thanks to Kear’s Speed Shop we were able to get all the parts we need and the car is ready to go for this weekend.”

Mingus, who was credited with a seventh-place finish in the B Main, is currently ranked 12th in the JLH General Contractor FAST 305 Championship Series standings and is 14th in the standings at both Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio.

He is slated to compete at both tracks this weekend.

“I can’t thank Kurt and Martha enough for the opportunity they have given me,” Mingus said. “I appreciate them allowing me to revamp my racing career. They are like a second set of grandparents to me. Kurt will still help us on the race team next year through his business and he and Martha will continue to help whenever they can.”

Mingus would also like to thank DB3 Imaging, Mid-America Chemical Corporation, Apple Girl Art, Jamie and Austin Neel, Hillbilly Rod Shop, Midwest Equipment Company Crane Rental, K1 Racegear and FK Rod Ends for their continued support.
