Kicking off the 2024 season: Virginia to Texas and Solar Eclipses

The 2024 season for Joe Morrison kicks off this weekend as he will be back behind the controls of Dennis Champney's Hell Bound Dodge Avenger alcohol funny car this Sunday, March 31st at Sumerduck Dragway. After the race, the team will load the car up on Sunday for one night's rest before heading out Monday for Texas Motorplex and the Funny Car Chaos Classic where over 60 funny cars will be battling for 32 qualifying positions. Monday, April 8th after the Funny Car Chaos race is over, the track is positioned almost exactly in the path of the full solar eclipse creating an unusual way to wrap up back to back race events 1,200 miles apart.

"I'm psyched that Dennis has trusted me to drive his car again this year," Joe remarked. "When we were invited to join the other 5 cars at the Sumerduck match race, I was stoked to get the call and excited to start the season. What makes it really exciting is that Jen and kids will be there with me. We will get to enjoy Easter Dinner at the track with Dennis and his family."

The trip to Texas for Funny Car Chaos really came together at the last minute. "I was planning to go help Rocky and Joey Pirrone regardless of whether I was fortunate enough to drive or not," Morrison said. "During a conversation about the Sumerduck race, I asked Dennis if he would consider going to the Texas Chaos Event and he said it would be a great opportunity."

Thanks to the support of PennGrade1 High Performance Oil, t-shirts and merch by Vintage1320 Apparel, team uniforms by ProThings Apparel, MyRacePass, SpeedPro Imaging of Piscataway, the team has the resources needed to take the long ride to Ennis, Texas. Richie Coury provided the design for the team's hero cards.

Funny Cars competing at Sumerduck include Joe in the Hell Bound car as well as: Bunny and the Boys Avenger - Gary Pritchett; Carolina Outlaw Firebird - Delbert White; Generation X Vega - Matt Stambaugh; Time Bomb Vega - Bob Toth; and Big Girl ‘55 Chevy - Wade King.

Stay tuned to Joe's social media for updates throughout the race events and the adventures along the way.
