BShep tops PDC preliminary feature at Fairbury Speedway
Brandon Sheppard's pursuit for his fourth Prairie Dirt Classic victory kicked off on Wednesday with the Castrol FloRacing Night in America-sanctioned One for the Road at Fairbury (IL) Speedway.
Joining a stout field of 64 Late Models for the rescheduled event, Sheppard lost a spot in his heat race to finish fifth, relegating him into a B-Main. Sending the top-two into the $20,000-to-win opener, Brandon fell short with a fifth-place outing.
Back at the Illinois oval on Friday for 14th annual Prairie Dirt Classic weekend, Brandon's time trial effort positioned him on the third row for his World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series-sanctioned prelim feature. Tracking down front-row starter Brian Shirley on the cushion while most the field scraped the bottom, Sheppard overtook Shirley late and led the final two circuits to capture the thrilling $5,000 preliminary victory.
Rolling off on the front row for Saturday night's $50,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic A-Main, Sheppard set the pace for the opening 20 circuits before Nick Hoffman slipped by. He faded to 15th at the checkers after bringing out a caution on lap 96.
Despite the disappointing finish, Brandon picked up a $10,000 bonus for leading 20 the race's 100-lap feature.
Brandon holds a 26-point advantage atop the latest World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series point standings.
