Ladies Take the Wheel: Powder Puff Headlines Return to Friday Night Racing at Can-Am

After a Monday night of drivers going toe to toe with each other and boxing matches in a portable ring, the focus shifts back to regular Friday night competition in all five divisions, but this past Monday was exciting with the debut of the Short Track Super Series North Region for the Modified and Sportsman divisions and our own Sundance Leisure Thundercars also did not disappoint with an exciting feature to finish off the night. Here’s what happened.

Round one on the night was “The Gloves are Off 51” for the Short Track Super Series and Jack Lehner looked to be the dominant driver early on as he held a commanding lead in the early laps but Mat Williamson was on the charge from 8th, taking second from Zach Payne. On a restart Williamson took the lead from Lehner turned in dominant performance, leading all the way to the checkers in the debut series event. Tim Fuller represented the locals very well with a runner up finish ahead of Chris Raabe, another former Can Am Modified champion in third, Zach Payne 4th and Series points leader Matt Sheppard, who came from the back after a pit stop to grab 5th.

Round 2 on the night was the Short Track Super Series North Regional Sportsman feature. Donovan Lussier came to Can Am earlier in the year for a DIRTcar Sportsman Series race and grabbed a win, on this night he did much of the same thing. The man who has wins at 10 different tracks this year, held of strong runs from Cedric Gauvreau and Jeremy Slosek to record his second win of the season at Can Am. Gauvreau held on for second ahead of series regular Tyler Peet. Gavin Eisele ran the best of the local drivers with a 4th place effort with Blaine Klinger crossing in 5th.

The third and final round of the night saw the Sundance Leisure Thundercars come to the line for a 15 lap $800 to win race and four drivers were in a battle for the top spot all race long. Corey Valade, Tony Frezzo, Francis White and Jared Gilson battled hard in the top 5 in the early laps. In the end Corey Valade would survive two late restarts and challenge from Tony Frezzo for his 5th win of the year. Frezzo grabbed second, while Francis White brought it home in third.

Back on the card will be all five divisions plus our annual Powder Puff, as the lady drivers take over the high powered race cars for the night, in a winner take all showdown.

Gates open at 5pm with the first green flag flying at 7pm.
